Last weekend - Cornwall ribfest kick off year...

So I was cold call hired by one of the local service clubs who was firing up a brand new event. Ribfests seem to be the hot ticket these days so off they went and orginized on. Well didn't 30K + people show up and they had a smash sucess. They booked a carnival, and about a dozen or so bands, local, and tribute acts...I'm crossing my fingers but it should easily turn into an annual event seeing that it came off so well... and I'm hoping to be a part of that tradition. Lots of compliments about the pa sound, even to the point of a town counsillor stopping by to say there was not one complaint all weekend from the surrounding homes, "best sound ever in the park". I didn't measure the distances, but guessing I would say that (I measured on my iphone app) that is was 78db of band program at ~ 150 ft, and about 85db at the mix position at 65 ft (c weighted).

PS - Ya I know I'm going to catch heat about the "Flat faced line array", lol shoot me.
PSS - I'll be putting those eventer lifts on the ground next year, more out front to catch the performers faces who don't get the concept "if you can see, everybody cant see you !!"

What's that strange large thing in the 4th picture with all the knobs and slidey things on it but no screen?

Well TJ. Back in the day. Sound men USED to use knobs and switches to mix the audio in a pleasing fashion. But here in the future we just think about it and our x32 console which is firewired to our neuronet headgear and it happens. Lolol

A FOH with faders and knobs

Who decided that 8 faders is enough for 20+ inputs? I missed that meeting....

After months of digital only I really enjoyed being behind a H2K the other day. The sensation of real faders and knobs is worth the hassle IMHO.

+1 i seem to be behind analogue about 3-4 times a year now. Aside from racks of outboard, it is never a hastle to mix on compared to the spaceship of the day.

Don't accuse me of using an X32. I'm a GLD man.

This weekend I ran monitors on my GLD for a festival with 3 bands and a total of 18 mixes. That would have been tough on any analog board I could afford (though that's getting easier all the time - lol). The venue has an H2K which we shove aside and plug in our M7 at FOH for similar reasons. If you said I've sold out - you'd be right.

Last summer, four national country acts serviced by Claire Nashville were all large frame analog with a collection of outboard that looked like a "What's What" collection.

If you can afford the gear you can also afford the crew to move it around.

Really nice stage! But no rigging points?

"Yeah, you can have the Heritage for £125 a day, but we'll charge you £1000 to move it!"
