ID:	4882Here are some pictures from my tour. We're carrying JBL's new VTX line array. It's really a leap forward for JBL. The boxes are very smooth and long gone is the annoying JBL midrange. There's also amazing HF extension with no noticeable distortion.

I'm managing the arrays with Performance Manager, which came out right before the gear left the shop. It's also a wonderful leap forward from System Architect for gigs like this. Managing all of the amps ...

  2. Addams Family Tour: Console

    by , 04-26-2012 at 05:56 PM
Could you talk about your console routing in more detail? What pieces of the SC48 do you feel you are really leveraging to make the show that much better?

The console is actually a Profile. We have 84 inputs and 21 physical (non-internal) outputs. Both of those counts are low for a typical Broadway show. The input count is low because all sound effects playback is handled completely outside of the desk by LCS/Wild Tracks. The output count is low because we are only sending "stems" ...

  3. Addams Family Tour: One size fits all?

    by , 04-24-2012 at 11:30 AM
We've hit a little lull in the load-in at The Orpheum in Memphis so I'll try to add a little detail to Rob Spence's question and Tim Mc's response.

I hesitate to use the term "cookie cutter", because each design will have some show specific items and configurations. That said, most touring Broadway show rigs are pretty generic because they have to work in so many different spaces. Tim pointed out many several factors that help keep the differences in spaces manageable. ...

  4. Addams Family Tour: On vacation and taking questions.

    by , 04-18-2012 at 05:02 PM
I was sitting at home thinking about how I didn't have anything to write about since I'm on vacation. Then I realized that being on vacation is a rarity in our business. This is the first time I've ever had one. That is, left a show that is still in progress and been absent while the show continues on.

All too often in this business "vacation" is the time that we spend frantically trying to find what the next gig is or skimping a saving until the next tour picks up. It's ...

  5. Addams Family Tour: System Tuning

    by , 04-01-2012 at 01:35 PM
Hey everybody. Checking in from Cincinnati. IATSE Local 5 is definitely on my short list of favorite locals. Expert stagehands who somehow manage to remain humble while they kick a lot of ass. Always an enjoyable stop.

I've gone back and forth with what I want to do with this system tuning post. The last thing I want is for this to become a digital record that someone points to as some sort of authoritative reference. The fact of the matter is, I don't have time during a load-in to ...
