Good day All,

My teenage daughter wants speakers for her room to play her laptop, tablet, and iPhone on. Since constantly having to switch a 3.5mm jack between devices seems cumbersome to an impatient teen I thought a Bluetooth device would work. That said, I've been looking at the Danley Ion as one possible solution. Has anyone here had a chance to listen to one and can give an opinion on it's sound quality and features? One concern is it's bass response. Since she doesn't follow in her fathers rock roots and prefers to listen to Rap (crap) whatever I end up going with will need "decent" bass (I'm not looking to shake the walls, just good quality). I know the the Ion is a small unit but as I can attest from my TH-118's, Danley has been known to get a plethora of bass out of a small package. If anyone has any other suggestions for a good Bluetooth speaker I'd be happy to listen those opinions as well.

Thanks for your help,

Powersoft Packaging: an example

I recently bought two Powersoft K10 AESOP amps the idea being that one will power left and right house tops and the other house subs. Fine as these amps are they present some packaging challenges: they are relatively deep; the CPC power connector sticks out about 3 inches, even with a right-angle backshell; the Ethernet/AESOP RJ-45 jacks are PC mount types, not Ethercons; and if you want routinely to use the XLR and Speakon connectors on the back you need thumb clearance to unlatch them.

Not wanting to get involved in getting a custom rack case fabricated I scoured the Internet for off-the-shelf solutions. I settled on EWI Roadcase's deepest 4 RU rack case. This is strong enough for my relatively mild needs. The trouble is that the spacing between the front and rear rack rails causes the rear mounting holes on the amps to fall exactly on the rear rack rails. The solution was to move the front rails forward about 1/2 inch by drilling new holes in the rails for the bolts that secure the rails to the case. There is just enough material to do this. It places the amp's rear holes just inside the rear rail so that a piece of 1 x 1 x .125 Al angle makes a very solid rear bracket. Moving the amps forward also provides more room for the power connector. The Powersofts only need 1 inch in front of the front rails, so no problem there.

The thumb clearance required for the input and output connectors absolutely prevents an amp from occupying the top space in the rack. (You'd need a special tool to unlatch the Speakons.) Since I need two contiguous spaces to accommodate the diameter of an L14-30 power inlet the only possibility is to put the amps together at the bottom of the rack and the power adapter panel at the top.

<img src="http://soundforums.net/attachments/junior-varsity/7030d1369350230t-powersoft-packaging-example-psk10rack.jpg.att" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.
The cutout in the power panel provides ample thumb clearance. The panel also holds an Ethercon feed-through so that a rugged, strain-relieved network cable can be used. An aluminum enclosure contains the power wiring and and a 15 A branch rated circuit breaker and convenience outlet on its front side. The Ethercon is outside the power enclosure. A diagonal brace from the right edge of the panel to the enclosure stiffens the panel, which is fabricated from .125 6061-T6, against torment by heavy power cords.

My second post and first question on a forum being read/consulted since 2010. A forum that made me decide (not regretted at all) for investing in the Behringer X32... so this user group has had its useful effect so far .

I'm heading to improve live recording conditions in our venue. Boutique conditions: 40 sq meters stage in 170 sq meters live room (70 seats), with 6 monitors on stage. Montors are compact coaxial pretty powerful (DBT or some "higher" made in china, I can't remember but that's not relevant I believe, 8)~8-)~). Various bands on stage, various genres (from brickwall metal to softest brushed jazz). Different situation every weekend.

The fact is that in some conditions the bleed on stage is so high that the multitrack (excellent from the X32) is almost unusable for mixing.
Bleed from dums (back central on stage) is relevant for the main vox usually: would be solved with some special plexy screen - planning that to filter highs and keeping the kick going through.
Bleed from guit amps (back side on stage) are mostly not noticeable after proper eq-ing.
What worries me (and gets to the recordings) are "special" cases: miked keyboardists (worst case, with a wedge on the side that shouts to the microphone), or wind players that "can't hear themselves" most of the times. So the wedge is turned up to the limit and shouting to their ears (and to their mikes).

Thinking of cheap solution (considering that the plexy screen is getting most of the budget).
- convert some wedges to headphone amp. Conversion would be done "on the fly". Found this model on Thomann, that gets balanced XLR and can switched to mono:
Superlux HA3D - Thomann Italia
sturdy enough, cheap enough (I would buy maximum 4)
- rig the "special player" with headphone attached to the amps. Now sturdy cheap headphones is a challenge. Same brand as above has very cheap stuff but I can't predict longevity... but who would care for a 20 eur headphone...? Semiopen or closed, I would give some choice:
Superlux HD-681 B - Thomann Italia (example for semi-open).
- I would avoid in-ears to maximize durability and improve hygiene (several different users per month).

Questions:
- how is it going to work when "forcing" some band members (presumably the "sit" ones, drummer and keybdists) to get the headphone instead of the standard stage monitor?
- is this really going to drastically decrease bleed to acceptable?
- What would the plexy screen do the drum miking. Jamming it up and reflect unwanted frequencies back? Or just dumping snare and cymbals (that would be the objective)?

Any feeling/thoughts/experiences?
apologies if this has been covered in the past.

best regards

Hi folks,

I just noticed a fairly prominent rental house no longer lists the powered VRX tops and subs in their rental inventory, and instead has the QSC KLA-series top boxes and QSC KW-series subs.

Don't get me wrong, I love QSC gear - I send out mostly KW and HPR-series gear on important shows, and they work fine for my purposes. However, I don't delude myself about these speakers being truly pro-level. Icepick high-mids or not, I have always understood the VRX line to be a more professional box than any of QSC's self-powered offerings. Especially considering the fact that the KLA top box is plastic, or in other words a line-array-ified K12.

If I were to guess, I would say that the KLA gear has a better rate of return, but that's hard to argue because it's currently priced within $100 of the VRX. So why would a shop move to an inferior product that costs almost the same? Is it possible that they have some kind of special arrangement with QSC that isn't available with JBL? I know they also rent out other smaller QSC speakers.
