I have a few old mic stand bases kicking around - but not enough. I need an economical solution to use a single yolk LED as an uplight. x 16. What inventive ways have you all come up with?

Quite honestly, the most common solution is 2x4 and plywood.
I use floor plates like this: 8" Floor Plate 1/2" Par Can Uplight Base | eBay
I use a chunk of ply with a block in the middle to give clearance for the XLR cables. Painted black of course.

I take a 12" or so square of 3/4 ply and cut a 4" round hole in the middle. Then, I glue a piece of 1/4" ply to the top of that (same dimensions), with a 1/2" hole in the middle. If done right, you'll end up with a nice 12" square that looks like one piece. Paint it black and bolt your fixture to it. I can probably make 50 of these for less than 50 bucks.

I just use a 12" square of 3/4" ply with 12" long furring strip runners on two opposing sides. Cheaper/easier to cut than a 2nd piece of ply and still just enough height for the bolt clearance and to tuck cables underneath.
When faced with a limited amount of time to temporarily install 12x PAR 56 uplights in church for Easter, a quick trip to the department store yielded round cake pans. A 9/16 hole drilled in the center of each (ganged together for ease and safety) was the answer. These have worked very well since! (7 years ago now...)
In a similar fashion, a large tradeshow booth required uplighting behind frosted plexiglass. While walking down the hall at the hotel, a few 'room service' plate covers joined us for the show. Stainless steel construction with pre-existing hole in the top. Viola- Instant PAR base! These were returned to the hotel at the end of the tradeshow, of course.

That is pretty clever. I had a a gig where I was short a bolt and nut. Went back to the van scrounged disassembled the jack housing and voila the show went on.
