X32 Talkback Problem

I didn't want to post this in the current X32 thread because it's so active I know it will get lost.

Problem is when I use the talk back regardless if it's the internal or external talkback I get a fluttering sound in the mixes. I have used the desk 3 times and all 3 times when I talk to the band on the talkback through the monitor mixes they have all told me it sounded bad yet they could hear me it just had a lot of noise and fluttering in it. I ignored it at first. Then last night I soloed my Aux 1 with headphones on and used the external talkback and they were correct I hear a lot of fluttering sound almost louder than my voice. Has anyone noticed this?

I have also discovered that the internal talkback mic is almost to hot to use. I can barely crack it open and the wedges start to feed back more than 60 feet away facing the other direction. Is this normal?

Re: X32 Talkback Problem

The noise is not normal, sounds like something is broken.
The internal mic is hot for a reason. You should use this one only in a studio enviroment. For talking from the control room into the headphones mixes of the musicians, do not use it for live events.

Re: X32 Talkback Problem

I'm thinking it's your x32.. I have not experienced the fluttering you speak of, and like I said over the phone, Justin, Writt, and myself were all pretty shocked at how well the internal talkback mic worked. Granted, my band has two in-ear mixes and only one wedge mix, but Justin used it without issue with FOH at 45' and five wedge mixes. I can't recall if we have the autodim enabled or not but I'll verify and let you know.

I checked and have the same issue. I brought a wedge close to the board to listen, and once I pushed either one of the talk buttons A/B, I heard a loud sizzling/hissing type of sound. This occurs whether or not an external mic is plugged in, and regardless of talk volume setting.

I also have the same issue you have with the internal mic. Way too hot to use at all. I just installed and am running the latest firmware, 1.09, so it appears to be a definite problem. The talkback works ok with an external mic, but you can definitely hear the background noise competing with the signal.

Re: X32 Talkback Problem

I did some testing tonight and found that if you engage the "Auto Dim" control on the talkback circuit it solves the issue completely. I also decided to attenuate the Talkback circuit down -14db so that the surface control is not as sensitive. So the bottom line is that my issue was simply operator error.

FYI: Joe Sanborn from Behringer jumped right to this problem and tracked me down to see if I had a issue. He spent some time with me today on the phone and helped solve the problem. Another prime example of great X32 support. Thank you Joe Sanborn.

Re: X32 Talkback Problem

Once again thank all of you for all the feedback we’re getting from you. Allow me to address some of the recent issues raised here.

Bugs and User Preferences
There is often a misconception of “Bugs” and User Preferences.

“Bugs” are true software defects which need to be addressed and those will always have first priority with us. We classify them as major and minor issues and they will be handled in that particular sequence.

However we often get “bugs” reported which are not defects but stem from misunderstandings how the X32 works and how it was designed. This is understandable as a product of such complexity requires some learning.
I like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for helping other members answering their questions.

Feature requests and workflow changes however are a different topic.

While each of you have different preferences and use the X32 in different applications, it is important to understand that the X32 has been designed mainly as live/studio console and hence it might not meet all of your requirements for theatre or broadcast use etc. Even digital consoles costing US$ 100,000 won't meet all expectations as products are designed for certain purposes and applications.
However be assured we will certainly not ignore those requests but have to set a lower priority for future feature and workflow implementations.

The X32 has now been on the market for a little bit more than 2 months and since then we have already released over six firmware updates many of which have already addressed several bugs but also provided feature enhancements.

Since the X32 is a "living" product, many more firmware updates will follow as well as a major Generation 2 upgrade next year. However we kindly ask you to be patient as even "simple" software changes are extremely complex and need thorough testing.

Once again thank you for all your feedback and patience. Our team is working hard to address any challenges you might encounter and also accommodate as many requests as possible.

It is wonderful to see how much feedback we are receiving and be assured that we are carefully listening to each and every of your comments even if you don't get any immediate feedback from us.

I am also pleased to announce that we will soon introduce other members of the X32 family and expand the range of feature-rich and high-performance digital mixers.

Warm regards

Uli
