The console that doesn't exist.

I'm trying to find a console that suits my needs, and one does not seem to exist, that I can tell anyway. Something like an X48 would work well, with a stack of S16s, but it will probably never happen.

Criteria:
  • 48 channels to mix
  • All 48 channels able to be multitrack recorded somehow
  • At least 16 auxes, switchable to stereo for IEM mixing
  • Digital snake mandatory, not optional (I don't want 48 XLRs on the surface)
  • Excellent Windows/Android based editors
  • <$10k complete
  • Needs to be of reasonable quality

Does it exist?

In my latest searching, I think I could get a Yamaha DM2000 and outfit it with enough cards to run with my S4000 digital snake and get the job done...but I'm probably crazy...

Re: The console that doesn't exist.

Other than the currently non-existent but theoretically coming IPad app, your list sounds an awful lot like the GLD.

Crossed my mind, and though the iLive is my favorite console (workflow-wise) of all time, I use one weekly and it's falling apart, and it's in an install. And A&H hasn't really figured out their expansion cards very well yet; if I max things out with the digital snake expander boxes, is there still a slot available for a full-featured Dante recording card?

Re: The console that doesn't exist.

You can get up to 40 channels with the GLD using two Cat5 Cables. There are an additional four more XLR inputs on the surface plus two stereo RCA inputs on the surface.

It has plenty of mono or stereo auxes plus plenty of mono or stereo matrices

It does not yet have the editors available but we keep hearing "Soon." Who knows. I just bought a second GLD and got it yesterday. My first one paid for itself in six months.

In addition to the 40 inputs that you can get via the digital snake, there is a slot that you can put a DANTE card in and you are good to go.

The build quality seems to be excellent to me.

I bought a very nice 300' piece of Cat5 cable with Ethercons from TMB and it has been rock solid!

Re: The console that doesn't exist.

SAC with a bunch of S16 stage boxes is the only thing I can think of that you could do at that price point.

A Soundcraft Si Compact 24 with stage boxes would get you up to 40 channels, but it'd also be a bit over your budget.

Re: The console that doesn't exist.

Yamaha CL1? No Android editor, aside from VNC control, but the rest of your list is there. Multitrack recording direct from the stage boxes via Dante virtual soundcard.

EDIT: Ah, you also want it to be cheap. That makes things quite a bit more difficult.

Re: The console that doesn't exist.

i had pretty much the exact same list, minus the android requirement. i ended up buying two X32s and cascading them, using 16 inputs on the second desk as 'cascade' inputs. it's not super sexy. takes up a bit more room than i'd like. but it does work. and i'm doing 48 tracks of record, PC remote control, iPad remote control, and will be implementing the digital snake very shortly. assuming i actually had to buy the control and recording computers [i already had a couple of PCs and an iPad floating around for control and i use my MacBook to record], i'd still probably clock in at just under 10K once i add in the 3 stage boxes...

i don't know of any other way to get this functionality at this price point right now.

With the exception of those two things, the Digico SD11 with a UB-MADI box for the recording.
