Listening Get Together

Re: Listening Get Together

I don't either.
As I stated before, I typically run bar bands at around 105db. I thought I was around that same level until Leland showed me the meter.

Among things one should seriously question, Leland's meter or metering or both is definitely a candidate.

Re: Listening Get Together

Doug - with respect - this and what's written on the BigE speakers page contradict the established laws of physics.
Yes, it does. I am well aware of that fact.

What your speakers seem to tout as their key feature [desirable time smear] runs completely counter to the design goal of virtually every other professional loudspeaker - eliminating the multi-path problem and the interference that causes. Until "the inventors" can explain why your product's counter-intuitive secret sauce can get around the last 100 years of acoustics, you're not going to make any headway here..
I agree with you here too. I am anxiously awaiting the day when they decide to reveal to the public what is really going on.
I don't pretend to understand it, and I have already admitted that I have little experience with scientific measuring.
All I can do is attempt to describe what I'm hearing based on what I'm used to hearing.

Re: Listening Get Together

They don't interact with room modes like a normal speaker. In the gym, not a null to be heard. In the bar, 1 null about a foot wide behind 1 pool table in a random location. About a 3db drop in bass, I could just barely hear it. The meter was how I found it. We split the subs, the power alley was about 3 inches wide on the dance floor. You had to move pretty slowly to even find it.

I can't wait to see the patent on how a box can change the way sound reflects off of different surfaces.

Is anyone else asking the question why, if this is such an earth shattering new physics-breaking technique, it is being shown publicly instead of being shopped to bigger speaker manufacturers with bigger pockets?

I know what the inside looks like, and I still don't understand it. However, I don't have to understand it to hear it.

I have wondered that myself, but it is the right of an inventor to market his product any way he wants to.

Re: Listening Get Together

Users only, no mfgs. I will need an NDA.

TBH, we need help figuring out how to measure these things. Sinusoidal testing does not display what we hear. The vortex requires lf energy to function.

Hi Leland,

I will echo those who have already advised that if you are serious about proving the claims, you need to enlist some help from folks with extensive experience in order to help bring credibility to what you are doing. I would suggest hiring someone like a Pat Brown or equivalent expert. BTW, if you have an NDA, you shouldn't necessarily need to exclude manufacturers.

From the outside perspective, you're requiring an enormous leap of faith at this point, so it is no wonder that some folks are poking fun at you. Removing that barrier needs to be a major priority if you are serious about gaining traction .

Re: Listening Get Together

"The inventors have explained to me that because of the way the vortex generates sound, that it does not interact with room modes and reflections in the same way that conventional speakers do."

B***S***.

This situation bears a striking resemblance to Steorn's perpetual motion machine claims, and to some degree their method of marketing it.

Re: Listening Get Together

True, and well known. Nobody would use a phone for accurate measurements, but they can get in the ballpark.
His phone/app has been calibrated and verified against several different db meters and is fairly accurate.
Verified at what level? The IPhone mic compresses at high dB, and may be perfectly accurate at 70dB, but 20dB off at 110dB.

Re: Listening Get Together

This is not a big feat IME.
True enough. The Titan's do have their place and have been quite effective in smaller venues.
Advantages to BFM Titans, in my experience are mainly in efficiency. They are a decent smooth sounding sub. Especially for the cost.
What is worth noting in this discussion, is that they were being compared to the RachE12. Same size driver and the RachE is less than half of the size of the Titan.
They had no problems keeping up with the MinE25.

You are fighting an uphill battle here, and I you won't find many people that will disagree with Dick. So...shows some results, give us EASE data, measurements...something! Pictures that this event even happened.

Not only that, but I'm beginning to wonder what the heck is in the water out there in Oklahoma. For all the world, this thread is sounding like the good ol days with another Okie and his speaker designs...who, as I recall, was found to have two or three alias' before he was banned from the old forum.

Legitimate questions, constructive criticism, concerns, doubts, disbelief, etc... all of those things are welcome and expected. They promote intelligent discussion.
Comments like the one above, and a few others, do nothing but prove that you know how to be a "Dick".
I refuse to go down that road any further.
I am uploading a few pictures now...

Yes. This is correct.

The offer stands. I will ship anybody a pair of MinE25's for evaluation with an NDA. The only way I know to get this across.

Just email me. [email protected]

What discussion?

You are telling us that a person with no formal higher education ( that I can see from the website) has found a loophole in the physics of wave mechanics that have been in use since the 1880's and that all of the modern fundamental understanding of the behavior of matter rely on.

This loophole is then explained in a bunch of misapplied scientific sounding jargon and backed up without even the minimum of data.

Instead we get qualitative impressions from a bunch of people who think BFM designs are even comparable to professional products.

The webpage is a load of BS obviously pitched towards uneducated suckers.

The time has come to put up or shut up. Either prove the claims or on proof that a product is being sold in the US based on those claims expect a fraud investigation.

Re: Listening Get Together

The listening party went very well. It was well attended.
However, there were a couple of guys there who took several measurements of everything. I have asked to get copies of what they did from them.
(several people brought things they wanted to hear), test tones, and we had some live music.
Complements from everyone there on the clarity and fullness of sound. Keep in mind, we were in a gym and it was still very clear and precise.

The gig that evening was even better. I have never received so many complements, even from people we didn't know, on sound at a bar gig.
They were very pleased.
Ill follow up with any reviews that I receive, and with any measurements I can get from people who attended.

I just wanted to know if anyone from this forum attended, and performed any of the afore mentioned measurements, did they attend the bar gig?
Can they post thier observations.... etc.

Curious as to who all the "thems" and "theys" are....
