Original 01v preamp issues?

I'm looking at a friends 01v.

It has preamp problems on channels 1-8 and 11-12. These preamps are down in gain and have quite a bit of hum and noise. I'd say the gain is down aprox 18-24 dbs compared to channels 9 and 10 which seem to be working fine with normal gain/noise.
Pots not dirty and pads are working fine. Noise still there with pads on but of course its 20 dbs down when working gains on bad channels.
I remember a ground problem that the 01v had in regards to rebooting but anyone had any issues like this?
Seems odd that 2 channels work fine as does the 2 stereo channels 13/14 , 15/16.
Heard of any ribbon problems or?
I did do a board factory reset.

Thanks;

Haven't heard of that one. That does sound like a ribbon cable issue. As I remember from performing the grounding fix on at least 3 of these years ago, it isn't terribly hard to take apart at least far enough to get to all the ribbons.

Posting the fix should anyone run into something like this in the future.
Pretty simple as it turned out.
I called the person who has it for sale and asked how they used it. He said in
his studio and it was always fed with the 1/4 inch TRS jacks.....
So I got an XLR to 1/4 TRS adaptor and all the channels work fine in the 1/4
inch line inputs! Seems the 1/4 inch inputs are switching jacks. They shut off the Xlr inputs so both won't be used at the same time. They needed some cleaning being used and the switching pins not touching for so long!
So I dug out the Deoxit to spray the 1/4 inch inputs and a jack to worked it in and
out. All XLR inputs work fine now so I'm guessing the switching jacks were open for so
long that crud built up where the pins should make contact when the jack is
pulled out.
Everything works great on it now.
