I already have an x32 & a couple of s16 digisnakes, iThing and router & am quite happy with them, but am interested in putting together a "Hatchback" system.
Choices are a Mackie DL1608 or a rack X32 (in combination with one of the S16s) when these become available. Simplicity & smallness are the key elements
here. Any alternatives or suggestions?.

I am patiently waiting for the Behringer iX16 to ship to replace my MixWizard for things like that. I have used the Mackie DL1608 several times and as cool as it is I just never really liked the sound I was getting with it enough to buy one. I had considered (and am still considering) an X32 rack but the things I would use it for only require 16 or less channels. If I had to choose right now with what is actually shipping I would spend the extra money and get the X32 rack.

Don't know exactly what you'd be using it for, but in case the boards ever needed to go out on the same show (monitor console or something) it'd be wise if you keep the interface the same with the digital snake. Personally I prefer the X32 over the DL1608.

I'm presently running a Mackie DL1608. If you already have an S16 then the Core is about the same price and is supposed to hit retail here any day, this month I'm told? The Rack is a bit (another month?) behind that. The Rack is cheaper than a Core + S16 and has more channels. If I didn't already own the DL1608 and the Rack was available now I'd probably go with that today. Hopefully many enhancements are coming to the DL1608 firmware soon but the hardware is what it is - no remote head amps, no multitrack recording, only 16 inputs and with the rack mount kit it takes up a HUGE amount of rack space. As you are already into the X32 it would seem to be a no brainer to not want to learn and support a different architecture for no benefit that I can see?

I also owned a DL1608 and sold it and moved on to X32 and have ZERO regrets. If you already have the s16 this seems like a no brainer to stick with the Behringer stuff -- I plan on doing the same and / or also going for the 1X16 when available.
