    Double 10 and Horn

Just wanted to jump in and say thanks to those who helped me figure out the dual 10 issues i was having. A wooden insert with a layer of acoustic foam later and we've got a nice looking response with some outrageous output for the size of these thing. All i need to do now is EQ the tweeter :)

    Double 10 and Horn

This certainly sounds like a very interesting concept to chase! I could certainly see it being used as a line array or sitting on a large point source stack with 2-3 giving good coverage and outrageous spl.

I went with the Faital Pro 10FH520 as I wanted the option of running these without any subs for smaller gigs. They play great down to 60hz and have plenty of xmax & power handling to coupe with that. As for retailers, I'm based in the UK so I wouldn't be able to help you on that front. Having...

    Double 10 and Horn

Having built the MTM Version of the double 10 i would probably recommend the MMT version until a more finalised MTM version is available. It's an easier build and you won't have to deal with the issues of the horn cavity creating reflections. Obviously it will be a taller speaker but most of the...

    Double 10 and Horn

Ok so it's defiantly to do with the horn cavity! Good thinking peter. As a very rough experiment I tried placing two heavy books into the spare space in the cavity which completely remove the dip at 750hz. We've found the culprit! It seems the gap i've left to squeeze the driver in is the...

    Double 10 and Horn

ahh good spy on the specs, I some how missed that! Your totally right, it looks like the EAW but at a lower frequncy. Edit: I'll have a go at adding some inserts into the horn mouth to see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion

You can see the readings attached. Blue was the full range reading, green is just the 10" speakers. I've also attached drawings of the adapted design. Only real diffrence is I simplified the bracing and adjusted the ports to match my driver.

    Double 10 and Horn

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it indoors, on the floor with the mic closer and it did reduce the notch at 450hz a little The main issue is that there is still a large notch around 650-750hz which is right where I want to crossover 🙃 I'll try and get some graphs up for you to see.

    Double 10 and Horn

This one is for @Jaroslav Mikyska & @Peter Morris I've just finished building a pair of dual 10's based on Jaroslav's design. So far so good! As expeceted there is a peak around 300hz thats easily eq'd out using my DSP. The issue im getting is that there is a big dip (-8db) at 450hz & 650hz...

    Paraflex Mid High

Thanks for the rough sim Peter, It seems to be quite a hard design to sim using hornresp! Especially the high end. From what I can see on the facebook page etc generally speaking the design should provide extended lower end frequency and increased sensitivity. They seem to prefer drivers with...

    Paraflex Mid High

Hi Art, These test were not carried out by my self but from what i know the initial tests were with a UMIK-1 @1m @ 1w (2.83 V) They were taken in an open field with the speaker placed at roughly head height. As fro the HF driver installed although I am not 100% what it was. something pretty...

    Paraflex Mid High

Seeing as we are in quarantine, I'm tempted to put together some real drawings and build a few for testing. If anyone else is interested I'll post real drawings here once they are done. EDIT: for anyone intrested in the facebook group, here you go: https://www.facebook.com/groups/bassaz/

The second desing is the Super Planar 2x12": Both options seem like a simple to build alternative to Pete's brilliant, all be it harder to build, DIY Mid High.

    Paraflex Mid High

I've been following a group called the "High Order Quarterwave Society" on facebook for a while and recently they've been coming out with some pretty rad looking ideas. It would be great to see what you guys think of the following designs: Paraflex 1x12" top: As it is now the working range is...

    Double 10 and Horn

Hi Guys, I've started to build my dual 10" and plan on using the HF950 Horn for most applications. In some specific applications I might need a 60° horn. Obviously the Eighteen Sound XT1464 horn would be ideal but this is much wider and deeper than the HF950 so i was wondering if any of the...

    Double 10 and Horn

Pete, thanks for going into a bit more detail. The larger diaphram probably explains why, based on rcf's charts, the ND840 has a much sharper fall off at the low end compared to the ND940. Looks like i'll be going with the B&C 10MBX64 & ND950 😁

    Double 10 and Horn

Thanks for that info Pete! Very helpful :) Out of interest, Looking at the Frequency charts supplied by RCF, It looks like the ND840 would go down to 650 (see attached) but obviosuly theres something i'm missing here 🤣 Still relatively new to speaker building and trying to learn! I assume you...

    Double 10 and Horn

Hey I've been looking into building a "budget" version of this double 10. What do you guys think about using the RCF ND840 1.4" + Faital Pro 10FH520 (or) B&C 10MBX64? I love Mikesound's design, do you think either of the above 10" drivers would work well in this design? I know I would loose...

Don't suppose someone had tried out the ND840?
