Knockout Punches on 1/8” aluminum plate

I've probably punched hundreds of 15/16" holes in 1/8" aluminum and lived to tell the tale. Clamp the plate securely in a vise (horizontally) and don't try to go too fast, seems to be the secret. If you use a big wrench, it's easier, but also possible to get the punch extremely hot. I think...

    Price liiiittle high

Still too high. I just bought some NA3FMs for less than $10 each to turn into pads. Even though I'm getting them at dealer cost, list price shouldn't be any more than double that. GTD

Multi Pin Disconnect... small/fun/learning project. 12 ch size

Re: Multi Pin Disconnect... small/fun/learning project. 12 ch size I prefer to just listen to the radio and leave my visual senses for the work at hand. You might want to be careful about how much "adult beverage" you consume too, just so nothing gets confused. Fixing a mistake...

    Strippers!!!

Re: Strippers!!! Yeah, I'm one of those people who will disagree with you. I never really got the knack of using those things. I prefer these or some variation on the theme. They will strip wire, crimp terminals (DON'T try that with pliers), and cut bolts without messing up the threads. GTD

How long do your XLR connectors last?

Re: How long do your XLR connectors last? That's not a bad idea, if you're otherwise satisfied with the Neutrik X-series males. The XX seem to have corrected the only complaints I had about the X: the catch receptacle can't be dented in, and the boot fits inside rather than outside the shell...

    [FS] Amp Rack I/O Panels

I reconfigured a couple amp racks over the summer, and these panels were left over. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to use them again, so I might as well try and sell them to someone who will. These are both basically the same, meant to power two stereo amplifiers, and bring their inputs and...

    Line Level Isolation Transformers

Update: Line Level Isolation Transformers I made a decision on what to do with the grounds in the boxes. I've taken the audio grounds (pin 1 and S) to the chassis through a 0.01 µF capacitor. The value was chosen because it's virtually an open circuit at hum frequencies (60, 120 Hz), but is...

    Line Level Isolation Transformers

I see most of the threads here involve speaker design, or other woodworking related topics. My interests generally run in the direction of metal bashing and soldering rather than sawing (sawdust is too messy ), so here's my contribution for what I hope is a useful isolation transformer...

Watching movies through audio geek eyes. What's your observations?

Re: Watching movies through audio geek eyes. What's your observations? That Beta recorder looks like a Sony DAT recorder to me. Either a PCM R500 or R700. Hey, I like to think I can geek with the best of them. One of my personal favorite TV show props was the gizmo being held by...
