    Working with other peoples scenes

I’m wondering what’s emerging as the industry standard for this? I work at a place with a few different techs and the same roster of bands coming through every month or so. On any given show night it’s a roll of the roster die what tech gets matched up with what band, the skill level of the...

Thank you for all the suggestions, I’ll try again next gig with some of these and some different mics. Sounds like it caaan be done!

    Micing tabla for maximum volume

Hello, I’ve been working with a Sufi band and the tabla are a constant vexation. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for getting them over the rock band volume of the rest of the stage? Last show I used beta 57as on an almost horizontal angle (trying to reject the foldback). It was stable ish...

    Expanding outputs on an M32

Before I go back to the boss and tell him he’s dreaming I want to double check here, the maximum outputs that an M32 can support is 16 isn’t it? Whether you have one DL attached or two, you can’t expand it out to 32 outputs because the software doesn’t support it.

    RCF ESW 1018

Awesome, thank you. Next mission, accumulate 1200w amps :-)

    RCF ESW 1018

What amps would you use to drive 4 of these? I feel like I must be reading the specs wrong because it looks like their peak is 6000, which means maybe, 1200w min amp to drive just one? But that would be a fortune in amplifiers, so maybe the question is actually what’s the bare minimum you’d...

Obnoxious high pitched buzzing sound from LED screen to every DIed instrument on stage.

Has anyone encountered this? How did you fix it? Screeching sound intensifies when the musicians are directly in front of the screen and diminishes as they move away. They always set up directly in front.

Good monitor mixing, especially when the band gives up and stops asking for what they need.

All is most excellent help, thank you :-) I learned yesterday that the two musicians in this band that complained are notorious for complaining after the fact. Still, for everyone else who’s capable of communicating what they need I want to lay the most stable foundation possible!

Good monitor mixing, especially when the band gives up and stops asking for what they need.

In answer to why didn’t I ask? We did a looooong sound check at the end of which everyone claimed to be happy. There was a point where all the requests were piled on me in quick succession and the foh engineer came down and took over the monitor mix (to pull the in ear mix he said but then he...

Good monitor mixing, especially when the band gives up and stops asking for what they need.

I have two questions really. Question one, when you're preparing for a touring band to come in and sound check what are the things you do to prep the space before they arrive as a matter of course? Bonus second part for this, what do you do to prepare for in ear mixes? Question two, how do...

How would you go about finding short term work in other countries?

Schengen work permit sounds like a valuable acquisition. Any idea what events and or companies might be good to cold canvas for work once I have it? I do know a couple of US techs (from this forum in fact, yay for online global connectivity), you've reminded me I haven't followed up on those...

    Metal/hardcore/punk live sound.

For venues small enough that you're fighting the sound from stage, if you can balance the bass with the ear bleeding cymbals you'll create the illusion of the the mix being balanced without having to push out more mid range and treble content (vocals sitting bang up there with them though of...

How would you go about finding short term work in other countries?

Dreaming the dream. (No luck turning up additional work opportunities yet but I think I'm just not looking in the right places).

How would you go about finding short term work in other countries?

I’m itching to do a working holiday where the work is production related (I want to see how you all do it in other parts of the world, especially music festivals!!!) Now that we’re starting to inch out of covid (and I have 15 years of experience under my belt instead of being green) I think it...

How do you keep track of mics at events?

In this instance we two techs felt the responsibility landed squarely on us due to an absence of step 2 and step 3, we wouldn’t have asked the client to take the hit (not our client, we’re contracted in by the hire company to op), but the client was super helpful anyway. The mic since turned...

How do you keep track of mics at events?

I’ve never lost a mic at a gig before but it happened today. Two techs sharing sound duties, 4 handheld wireless mics became 3 over the course of the first half of the day. Asking around and searching all the likely places hasn’t yielded it and I’m tentatively going to say Long Fingers took it...

Losing hours to new crew who are friends of the new manager doing the rostering.

I want those hours, and I don’t know if that’s ok. A completely different manager ago I became the fill in tech for another person who worked here. Then he lost his job and I became the only one but I’m not always available and so I recommended another two people to fill in and next thing I...

Losing hours to new crew who are friends of the new manager doing the rostering.

You know, I think I did sign a contract to work at this place but it was all about what I could do for the business. Nothing in there about how the business would look after me. Imagine I went in for a renegotiation gambit (knowing of course that this might lead to the end of my working...

Losing hours to new crew who are friends of the new manager doing the rostering.

In brief, I got an aspiring young tech an internship at a place I work and now she’s my manager. Even in ranking to the original manager more or less (they are meant to be interchangeable) and she’s been given the rostering to do. There used to be 3 techs and the hours were shared evenly. This...

Live-streaming with an Insta360 and external line level

This bit in the manual about line in, how would you interpret that? (At this point I wish I had access to the thing to test ah hah *sigh* )
