I've had that book since the mid 80's, and I still crack it open from time to time....... Looong after the project I bought it for.
Knowledge is power. Studying the book is far cheaper than tearing out screwed up renovations.

Adjust delays and phase all you want. It will only be "correct" in ONE spot.
Less speakers is more accurate. A true point source being the best you could expect.
More than that is always a compromise.

I don't see the need for a directional mic, as the parabola is focused in the mic element.
