Re: Mic stands extending from the left Oh, you're that guy! I used to work with someone who would screw them on so tight, I almost needed vise-grips to get them OFF! Seriously, the only mics I routinely have a problem with are kick drum mic stands. I typically don't have a lot of room in front (small stages), and an RE-20 puts a lot of torque on the threads. It pretty much has to come in from the drummer's right side, or it will loosen and drop before the first set is finished. Personally, I hate the lock rings. The first thing I do with new stands is remove them (although I do have a few stashed in the bottom of the mic stand trunk in the unlikely event that I do need one). Part of the problem is mic clips that have aluminum threads (it looks like the Heil might). It alternates between being too slippery and hopelessly jamming up. The old AKG clips were notorious for this, and the old MD-421 clips would eventually lose their threads until they wouldn't stay on the stand reliably. OTOH, I've never had trouble with Shure or E-V clips (with the brass inserts) sticking. GTD
