There is a freeware PCB layout program called Autotrax here :

http://www.altium.com/community/downloads/en/downloads_home.cfm

The thing is as fast as greased lightning and fits on one floppy disk (for those who remember what a floppy disk is).

Protel became Altium and the thing got bigger and bigger and slower and slower and more and more incomprehensible but the old dos freebie does everything you need (once you have built your own component libraries because the one supplied sucks).

Re: PCB Layout program

I use Eagle, it has most anything I can think of in the component library, anywhere from your basic 555 to a Neutrik connector and much more. You can also download other component layouts that other people have made and posted to there website.

Re: PCB Layout program

The free version of eagle is limited to a modest max PCB size. I use an older revision level paid version of Eagle and it is competent, while I may have to spring for a newer generation revision as the traces and spaces on modern PCB keep getting smaller.

For small PCB the freeware eagle is well regarded.
