Should I upgrade to Windows 10?

Re: Should I upgrade to Windows 10?

I have windows 10 running on a desktop computer and on a tablet. I am using reaper (32bit) as DAW with several audio interfaces, focusrite, moto, m/x32, x-air. Only the m-audio lightbridge is not working on that computer, but that was also true for windows 7 on the same computer. The rest works fine.

Also i am using seceral remote control software, for m/x32, x-air, yamaha consoles on both the tablet and the desktop. No issues so far.
if the software runs on windows 7 it also runs on windows 10. at least for the software i am using.

Re: Should I upgrade to Windows 10?

Are there issues with Windows 10? DAW, interface drivers, other apps we use?

Yes, I highly recommend updating.

In my case, the same laptop hardware that was bought to run a dual boot WinXP/Vista environment is now running Win10. The laptop seems to run better and faster with far less glitchy crap going on than it did with Win8.1. I have not run into any problems with things that did work in Win7 or Win8.1 not working in Win10. I also like the Win10 interface a lot better than Win8.1.

ProTip for Win10 users: Right click on the Start button for direct access to system functions like Control Panel, Network Connections, Device Manager, and lots more.

Re: Should I upgrade to Windows 10?

Well, so far so good on Windows 10. Aside from the lack of privacy (with the default setup) and the default auto updater, I must admit that everything else I've tried still works like it did before the update (all apps and drivers work). I use Reaper, X32 Edit, Sony Vegas 10 and Audacity (Xenyx 2442 interface) on a cheap Dell Inspiron 15" laptop.

Same observations here. The major "Threshold 2" update reset some of my preferences and re-installed some of the "garbage apps" I'd previously removed (Cortana, Bing, etc.). Lesser updates haven't been as intrusive.

The Update Scheduler seems to be able to awaken my folded laptop from hibernation to do its thing, then leaves the computer running at the login screen (cooking away, with the cover closed). Not crazy about that.

Otherwise, Win10 (pro) has been well-behaved.

Ouch. for a laptop in a bag that could be pretty bad..

Re: Should I upgrade to Windows 10?

We have what we call a show computer that we use to run Palladium for musicals. It came with Windows 8.1 (I think) it is only hooked up to see the internet on very rare occasion, if we feel we should update something. I was wondering the same thing if there was any reason to upgrade to Windows 10? I will check with Palladiums author CH Sound Design before updating to get their take on this. Is there an idiot’s guide to how to set up Windows 10 to make it behave properly?

Re: Should I upgrade to Windows 10?

Without breaking their fundamental design Windows 10 is a no go for me for a show critical computer. The fact that they won't allow you to disallow auto updates is garbage
