Tannoy VXP

Re: Tannoy VXP

Never tried that series, but tested 8 powered V15 a few years back. They lasted exactly 1(one) gig before half of them overheated and the other half fried it's drivers. Replaced them with passive V15 and Lab C68:4, that was a better solution that actually worked as a monitor system. I think it's down to a better amp and limiter package from Lab than the one fitted in the powered V15 from Tannoy. So I guess if Tannoy is using Labgruppen power and limiters now in the VXP, it can be quite usable.

Re: Tannoy VXP

Not rock and roll loud as hell loudspeakers but will do semi acoustic gigs well, make nice monitors as well. All the DC Tannoys have a distinctive sound seemingly regardless of amplifier or size of driver, the early Linear Research amps didn't like being ran hard but seem to be ok on lighter duty, hopefully the new Lab amps will be good to go from the beginning. I suspect that they'll not be cheap either in the US, they're made 15 miles from my house and they are not cheap here, I like them but then I've used Tannoy speakers in studios and as home audio off and on for years.
