Valencia, Spain – January 2012 … The Broendby Hallen Arena is just minutes away from the Danish capital Copenhagen, and is home to the capital’s own handball team, AG Kobenhavn. This sports arena, with seating for around 5,000, recently overhauled their sound system, installing a number of products from D.A.S. Audio’s vast catalogue of professional sound systems.
Danish firm ProShop Europe was contracted to install the sound system. Project manager Thomas Duch was assisted by D.A.S. Audio Sound Projects engineer Eva Argandoña in pre-configuration tasks and the final adjustment and setup of the system. Given the unique characteristics of the arena, with its uneven stands and other architectural challenges, the studies and simulations carried out by Argandoña led ProShop Europe to install D.A.S.’s Aero, Variant, and BiDriver series, according to the needs of the different parts of the arena.
Specifically, two linear formations of six self-powered D.A.S. Aero 12A line array systems each were deployed to cover the highest stands with the most seating. The upper section of this stand, with a roof positioned on six columns, posed significant acoustic challenges. To avoid the “acoustic shadow” created by these columns, a D.A.S. Variant 112A system was set up on top of each column to take care of the acoustics of the listening area behind these unique roof supports.

In a sports arena like Broendby, where players need clear speech intelligibility, it was crucial that the sound system cover the court: four D.A.S. BiDriver long throw systems were installed in a zenithal position on the ceiling of the arena to get the job done. During matches, these systems ensure the faithful reproduction of the message given to participants. A powerful D.A.S. SLA-3400 amplifier was selected to supply the corresponding amplification of the signal to these passive systems.
The finishing touch on the installation was a D.A.S. DSP-4080 processor, which manages the six clusters of Aero systems that cover all stands and the BiDriver systems positioned on the floor, while the Variant systems positioned on the columns of the main stand are managed using a D.A.S. DSP-2060A processor. All told, these top-of-the-line D.A.S. products provide high-quality sound reinforcement for the Broendby Halle Arena and its thousands of avid handball fans.
