Petaluma, CA – May 15, 2013 – Every user knows the inherent delicate nature of miniature earworn and headset microphones that achieve their transparency can be a double edged sword. Durability is hard to attain without compromising the product’s low-profile appearance but Point Source Audio (PSA), innovator of the original and one-of-a-kind “unbreakable boom” microphone, is meeting that challenge and more. The omnidirectional models of its new SERIES8 line will feature the prized 360˚ degree bendable boom combined with IP 57 waterproof protection against moisture, sweat and makeup—all while achieving a discreet profile and even a performance boost to 148dB max SPL. The long awaited Cardioid models round out the new offering for users looking for an “unbreakable boom” microphone capable of precise placement with a durable, yet low-profile. All SERIES8 mics feature user-friendly interchangeable “X-Connectors” for termination with popular brands of wireless transmitter packs including Sennheiser, Shure, Lectronsonics, Audio-Technica and more. The entire line of SERIES8 omnidirectional (CO-8) and cardioid (CR-8) headset, earworn and lavalier microphones will be shown for the first time at the Point Source Audio Booth 1426 during Infocomm 2013 in Orlando, Florida.
SERIES8 begins with a foundational performance criteria of 148dB max SPL and 135dB max SPL for its respective omnidirectional (CO-8) and cardioid (CR-8) offerings, each available in three different styles: headset, earworn and lavalier. The CO-8 omni mics are the only miniature mics on the market capable of reaching 148dB max SPL. They can capture all the nuances from spoken word to the extremely high vocals of singers. Combining this performance with the enduring bendable boom design that can be twisted into any position without worry of boom breakage—and a water/sweat proof protected element, the CO-8 omni line is the singular tool that can solve miking challenges big and small.
The CR-8 cardioid benefits are clear—this pickup pattern can eliminate nearly half of the environmental sounds around the microphone to focus more directly on the speaker or singer. Both the omni and cardioid mics come standard with easy-to-use low-cost “X-Connectors” which are replaceable connectors intended for fast on-site repair, or swapping to a new wireless termination with ease. The “X-Connectors” are attached with a short threaded cable connector so it carries none of the bulkiness or weight of other solutions, and stays securely in place. “Our SERIES8 mics are high value for customers that want a low-profile mic that has it all: unbeatable max SPL, a choice of two mic patterns in three styles, long-lasting boom durability, and moisture and makeup protection,” noted James Lamb, president of Point Source Audio. “It’s the best of all worlds.”
