On June 24, at a ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Economic Development honored PreSonus Audio Electronics, Inc., and seven other companies with 2014 Lantern Awards. This prestigious award is given for excellence in manufacturing and outstanding service to the community through the involvement of the company and its employees, including investments in employment growth and facility expansion. Each winner also must demonstrate sustainability by remaining in operation at least three years prior to the nomination.

More than 280 Louisiana manufacturing businesses have received Lantern Awards since the awards were begun in 1979. LED’s program partners include the Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association and the Louisiana Quality Foundation.

Lantern Award winners are selected by the Louisiana Association of Planning and Development Districts, with one winner for each of the state’s eight regions. PreSonus was the winner for the Capital Region, which includes Baton Rouge.

PreSonus is in its 20th year of operation in Baton Rouge, having shipped its first product in 1995. The company recently opened a major new facility in the city and has been a major contributor to such projects as LSU College of Engineering’s new DSP Lab.

“The 2014 Lantern Awards recognize Louisiana-based manufacturers who demonstrate true quality in their work and genuine commitment to their local communities,” LED Secretary Stephen Moret said. “With their focus on improvement, growth, and innovation, this year’s Lantern Award winners also are helping us position Louisiana as the best state for business investment and job creation. We congratulate them on their many accomplishments and are truly grateful for the career opportunities they provide to the people of our state.”

“This award is special for me because it recognizes service to the community, as well as manufacturing excellence,” remarked PreSonus Chairman of the Board Kevin Couhig. “We are a Baton Rouge company to the core, founded by Baton Rouge natives, and we believe deeply in giving back to our home city and state. We thank LED for recognizing not only PreSonus but all the winners who help make Louisiana a great place to do business.”

Award winners receive lanterns handcrafted and donated by Bevolo Gas and Electric Lights of New Orleans. Bevolo is the oldest and largest copper gas lantern manufacturer in the U.S. and the second-oldest in the world.
