Wilsonville, OR (January 17, 2025) — AUDIX, designer and manufacturer of premium professional microphones for stage, studio, and broadcast use, today announces the PDX520 dynamic studio microphone designed to provide true-to-life, full, and articulate reproduction of the spoken voice. Building on the success of the PDX720 Signature Edition, the PDX520 captures a natural, pleasingly warm sound that lends itself particularly well to long-form content and broadcasts in which intelligibility and auditory comfort are of first importance. The new PDX520 will be on display at the AUDIX Booth 14102 (ACC North, Level 1) during the 2025 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA.
The PDX520 features a cardioid polar pattern for optimal sound isolation. Its top-address VLMTM (very low mass) dynamic capsule is engineered to deliver deep lows and precise transients. At the rear of the mic, two toggle switches sculpt the microphone’s response. The first is a high-pass filter with a cut-off frequency of 80Hz with a 6dB per octave slope. This eliminates possible rumble, unwanted from hands on a desk, and other unhelpful low frequencies. The second switch adds a gentle presence boost between 1kHz and 5kHz with a maximum increase of 3dB. Both switches have two positions (on/off).
Podcasters, disc jockeys, announcers, and show hosts will appreciate that the PDX520 is designed with ample plug-and-play gain, requiring no impedance changers or “lifting” devices of any kind to communicate clear and attention-grabbing signal to the listeners and recording medium. An internal vibration dampener eliminates the need for a separate shock mount.
Though the frequency response of the PDX520 is optimized for spoken word, it also inherits the versatility of its elder sibling, the PDX720. Guitar and bass amplifier cabinets, outside-the-head kick drum miking (perhaps in conjunction with our famous D6 inside), horns, and even sung vocals are just some of the applications where the PDX520 just might prove to be the “X factor” that makes a track more compelling.
The PDX520 ships with 5/8-to-3/8-inch adapter for easy mounting on the widest variety of microphone stands and desk-mounted boom arms. Also included is a rugged and attractive zippered hard-shell carrying case.
“For interviews and other narrative content, your voice is key to growing your audience,” says Simon Beesley, Product Marketing Director at AUDIX. “With the PDX520, you will be assured of premium voice reproduction, with much of the design and technology coming from the AUDIX PDX-720 Signature Edition. Clarity in sound is of paramount importance within AUDIX and the PDX520 is very much a testament to this. The PDX-520 has been created & crafted with passion and we are sure that this will elevate your passion for great sound too.”
