Hello all,

Getting a lot of calls for followspots these days and thinking about adding a couple to my rental inventory. Would like to know your thoughts on a good quality, rugged followspot in the $1500-$2000 price range which can throw legitimately 125' or so and cut through LEDs and some movers. The Chauvet Followspot 1200 has caught my eye - has anyone had a chance to use them? I am interested in so give me your opinions.

Thanks
Hal

Purchase based on photometrics and condition (if used). Hell, I've seen Super Troopers go for $1500...

At 125' and to cut through movers and LEDs you'll need an optical train designed for that distance... and probably every bit of 1200w HID.

125' throw with reasonably lit stage puts you squarely into the world of "long-throw" followspots. It also pretty much demands an arc source, although you might be able to get away with a 575W lamp depending on your exact needs and the optical train. Unfortunately, this means you are unlikely to find a new unit within your budget.

The Chauvet unit you are looking at is a pretty clear knock-off of a Clay Paky unit, I'd stay away from it on those grounds alone.

Phoebus iMarc850 fits the bill except on price new. If you could find a used one in your budget it would fit the bill. Lamp is VERY pricey too but it is a very long life lamp comparitively.
