IRC/Chat night?

So, I'm feeling a little bored some nights and kinda miss some of the discussion on the Sunday Night chats from days gone by. Quite often I just sat in the room and read what everyone else was typing as it was great information to digest.

Anyone else interested in starting up a place to hang out? Or is a chat function coming into these forums? I'm young, but still remember just idling IRC chatrooms to go back later to read discussions, which I found very interesting and informative quite often.

Re: IRC/Chat night?

The Starlink IRC chat is still there, just not many people showing up.

Yea Justice I know the Starlink is still there, seems every time I show up its already to late for everyone else... My evenings don't start until about 8pm central when I can sit down at my computer. Home improvement projects or Family is before that.... seems everyone is gone by then. I normally idle around until midnight/1am central but not much traffic is showing up.

Was wondering if a different evening would work better for people? I might just have to start idling there to see who shows up.

Re: IRC/Chat night?

Actually, we haven't had more than 20 solid minutes of conversation in several months.
You can't miss what isn't there.

OK, i was giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. I know sadly Andy stopped being involved after the change over. I don't blame him. I truly do miss his witty musings, along with the abrasive knowledge he shared. It was good to be called out on topics. :D

If you prefer an IRC client you can use one of these servers:

BROOKVILLE.PA.US.StarLink-IRC.Org

ROCHESTER.MI.US.StarLink-IRC.Org

In your chat client enter "IRC.StarLink-IRC.org" as the server. Then join room "#prosound"

Also, the host at WICHITA.KS.US.StarLInk-IRC.org is frequently running a low load, and many of the #prosound users seem to be connecting through it.

Re: Sunday Night Chat

Anyone have any ideas to 'modernize' this chat? Does anyone think a Facebook group chat would work better? It might allow more collaboration in the long run since lines of communication would stay open all the time (others may not like that idea, but you can turn off chat in FB).

Andy does still show up in the chat, he has stopped using forums. I usually sign in at about 7pm ET, it is usually quiet till after 9pmET, and often is going strong after midnight ET when I sign off. Some nights are quiet, some are busy. If no one sticks around long enough to have a conversation it is real quiet.

Re: Sunday Night Chat

FB is a non-starter for me. I reject and avoid these privacy-invading advertising machines.

I think you'll find that in today's world, no one even knows what IRC is. I'd guess that 90% of forum posters already have a FB and it would be far easier to garner participation using an ubiquitous format than something that is pretty much dead.

Trying to use IRC is akin to distributing demo cassette tapes...no one does it anymore!

And, if I recall, you don't even need a Facebook to link into Facebook chat...not sure how it works, but I know there are clients (like Pidgin) that can handle FB chat externally. That might be a great solution for you stubborn folk.

Re: Sunday Night Chat

I tried numerous times on the old forum to get into the chat to no avail. I consider myself fairly computer savy but could never get an interface to work. I invested a good few hours on multiple occasions and was never able to "get in". A new method would be greatly appreciated.
