Re: Sunday Night Chat

I tried numerous times on the old forum to get into the chat to no avail. I consider myself fairly computer savy but could never get an interface to work. I invested a good few hours on multiple occasions and was never able to "get in". A new method would be greatly appreciated.

What chat client were you using? Since getting a real chat client I have had no issues at all. On Mac OS I can recommend Colloquy. Maybe a Windows user can suggest a good Windows client.

Re: IRC/Chat night?

That sounds like a good idea to do a poll about and pick a night that the most people favor.

If there is no simple poll capability, just post your favorite night(s).

Re: Sunday Night Chat

I think you'll find that in today's world, no one even knows what IRC is. I'd guess that 90% of forum posters already have a FB and it would be far easier to garner participation using an ubiquitous format than something that is pretty much dead.

Trying to use IRC is akin to distributing demo cassette tapes...no one does it anymore!

?? My younger friends who are 21-23 know how to use IRC, its still huge in the gaming scene, which is where I learned most of mine.

But I can see if they didn't spend time playing that many video games (FPS, RTS) they wouldn't know it.

Why not just create a new tab with a Java chat client or something??

Re: Sunday Night Chat

Facebook chat has crashed on me so many times I've lost count.
It's not reliable.

Another forum I use has switched their chats over to Tiny Chat.
http://tinychat.com/
It incorporates text, audio and video chat in a user friendly interface.

I set up an experimental chat room for testing.

Really???

Melissa is 21 and ready to chat apparently...

Re: Sunday Night Chat

I voted for Monday. Even though I can make the Sunday chats fairly often, I'm off on Mondays more than I am on Sundays. On weeks that we have Broadway, Opera or Ballet the chat runs smack dab into load out.

It seems to me that the chats died about the time that the forums split. It would be nice to see the community come back together a little bit.

I use Trillian for my IRC client, works great. I also detest the thought of a Facebook based chat. The chances for odd dating and singles adverts to come up while I'm at work are far too great than just having a Trillian chat box open. Plus, the people in our community should be expected to be a little more technically inclined and able to figure out something like IRC.

I voted Monday as well. Although as a road guy on a Broadway show doing mostly one-week sitdowns there really isn't a good night. Sunday is load-out. Monday is load-in, often with a short turnaround on Tuesday morning. Tuesday is opening night so usually a party or some other presenter sponsored event.

Oh, you're one of those shows that has to start load-in on Monday nights....man I hate those kinds of shows. Always seems like we could have done the same amount of work and started Tuesday morning and still have the show up and running. But, maybe the Adams' Family is going to be a much bigger show?

Sorry for the swerve . . .

I think a Monday start is pretty common for Broadway first nationals. If absolutely everything went right we MIGHT have been able to get In The Heights in with a 6:00am Tuesday start. I definitely wouldn't have had any dedicated quiet time and soundcheck would have been cut short.

We start the build for Addams in a couple weeks. I have to believe the load-in will be even longer for this show due to the amount of scenic automation.

**edit** -- You are correct that the audio department generally only has enough work for a single day. Unfortunately they make us do the show with the set and lighting as well so we have to give time for focusing lights and often have to wait for certain scenic elements to go in before onstage speakers can be connected. Additionally, when using local musicians we have to allow time for moving some instruments from the lobby/rehearsal room into the pit following the afternoon rehearsal.
