Hey guys,
Maybe I missed it already on here, but I am looking to get a case made for an SC48. Im no longer dealing with the company I was dealing with before. Who is a good company out there? How much did you pay? Any Pics? Thanks in advance...

Re: SC48 Case

Scott,

Since you must already know there are several excellent case manufactures building quality ATA300 spec cases I guess you're looking for personal experience from a few of us to hear just how well the product holds up.

First let me say, that for 13 years before I worked in audio, I built props for large stage illusionists. Everything had to have cases, especially for Andre Kole who did more than 60 dates each year. I bought lots of cases and also built many of my own designs as I experimented with ideas for light weight, durability and unique features. So I've come to a point were I have certain expectations of what I want to see in construction and materials.

The past six cases I've purchased have been from LM Engineering Inc. They've been very easy to work with allowing me to send in my own drawings and send me a final edited drawings for approval before commencing construction. They have used quality materials and allow me to spec a thin wall without complaint. I have never seen much of a need to build a case with 1/2" plywood--it weighs far too much. Their cases have an excellent edging & valence, no split rivet construction and with good hardware. I don't think the hardware is J. I. Sessions quality, but its good none-the-less, no failures to date.

I don't have an SC48 but my church is looking seriously at one. I do have an M7CL and just purchased a case for it last summer. Very nice, lots of special detail in its construction. I always spec larger diameter casters. 4" minimum, but 5" for heavier cases. I think LM Eng. Inc will send photos to you upon request. If not, let me know an e-mail address and I'll try and get some pics to you.

The cost. A console case has lots of detail construction as well as several features and hardware--so expect it to be a bit pricey. Shoot, my M7CL case has 27 handles on it! A little over kill but it sure makes it easy to be gentle when handling. With shipping it was about $2,300.

I buy R&R for almost everything
They are great and every case is built well w/good laminate not the cheap stuff like most.
Almost all of my 75+ case are 3/8" plywood, R&R doesn't skimp on materials, they only use the best.

My SC48 case is a R&R, It is a 3 piece w/noseconse
It even comes with a custom R&R cup holder
The footprint is 22.5 x 45
It has a monitor holder big enough for a 19" screen with room
It also has a compartment for the mouse, and other gak

It is a great case along with every other case I get from them

Re: SC48 Case

I'll throw some props out there to Olympic Case out of Florida. I don't have a SC48 but I had them build a case for a iLive T112. They did a great job with it. I don't know if they had done any T112 cases when I bought one, since it was so new at the time, and I don't know if they've done any cases for SC48s either. However, if there is a dimensional drawing they can build you anything you want I'm sure. Call Bob Farina, he's their east coast rep. I think. 888.246.5525

Edit: The case is fairly basic, just a two piece with an 8" doghouse. I've put in some pics for you.

Re: SC48 Case

Evan, Those pics might well be your case! They're a couple of photos Bob had sent me as an example of a Digi case when we were talking about him building a case for my SC48. They were the first photos I came across and attached them as being representative. I did a little digging in iphoto and found a couple of pics of the case I had them build for me. It's a nose cone style case and the monitor stows in the lid, just like the other photos I posted. Dimensions are 22.5" x 45".

Re: SC48 Case

Steve, your case looks a lot like mine, though I had an extra slot in the lid beside the monitor compartment which stored accessories such as the trackball and any other odds and ends.

I recommend getting an extra-deep doghouse unless you plan on multi-pinning - I found with the vertical stacking of the XLR connectors in banks of 16 that I often wished for a little more room to work.

Missing the SC48 at the moment but glad it went to a good and busy home.

Here's some more photos of my Olympic / SC48 case. 22.5 x 45 inches.

Re: SC48 Case

I took a better look at our SC48 case, and it turns out to be an MT, not LM as I mentioned in a post on PSW... but that's beside the point of this reply...

Rob, we've got a tight fit in our doghouse, too. The things that take up the big chunk of room are the 6' x 54 channel fanout, the box the RamLatch connector is mounted in, and the 2 circuit electrical distribution (one on UPS, the other not). Another couple of inches for a deeper doghouse would have been perfect. That's something I'll remember when we buy another SC48 & case.
