Low cost DI today heads up.

Re: Low cost DI today heads up.

That's cheap, worth just the cost of the parts minus the transformer. Pull out the cheapy transformer and slap in better transformer , it would be a well performing DI for minimal cost. Of course, who knows how well the case, jack and switch would hold up...

Re: Low cost DI today heads up.

Hello,

I bought 4...I have some jensen transformers and needed a project for them. If the box strength is not to my standard, then, I'll just leave these DIs as is and buy some project boxes.

They look just like the OSP DI's. http://www.ospworldwide.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=6050&idcategory=34

I have a couple that I bought for throwaways. Using them for DJ rigs that I can't babysit, that kind of thing. They are completely unusable. They squeal, pop, buzz, hum, or just plain don't pass signal at all.

If there is one redeeming quality, the metal case is pretty thick. It would be worth it as a project box at least. I wouldn't reuse any of the components though. Even the 1/4" jacks are practically useless.

Re: Low cost DI today heads up.

IMO, it's $9 useless parts like these that will cost you a fortune in lost business in the long run. When that DI fails in the middle of an important show, not only are you going to look bad to everyone in the crowd that might have wanted to hire you, you're also going to lose that client. Your reputation is worth more than $100 saved on a DI, I think.

Hello Silas,

I bought 4 of these Pyle Pro DIs ... I haven't had the opportunity to do any testing comparison in regards to signal fidelity or as to how they sound... but... I only paid about $9. a piece for them. I wasn't expecting too much.

On opening the box and examining the DI, I found that the case was not as well built as I would have liked...(although, it's better than many more expensive DIs being sold) even if I was to strip the stock transformer and install the jensen the TS connectors are plastic and the pad switch seems cheap....just what I expected.

I'm not worried about my "reputation" because unless the box met my spec. I would never even bother to rebuild them to my ideal spec...and I would never use any piece of gear that was shoddily constructed or who's quality was questionable..... SO....I guess my Reputation is safe.

Thanks for worrying about my Reputation.

Ding, Ding~We have a winner!
Kind of my plan.

Most stuff that has been stolen from me was the kind of stuff that you could call "eye candy". Big heavy speakers, amp rack, large snake, nawww... Not even if they were worth much more than the eye candy. Nice small mixer, fx rack with blinky lights, sure.

I wouldn't expect that the people that are doing the stealing will be differentiating between the higher cost or lower cost parts. Of course times have changed though and would be thieves could be walking around with their Androids and appraising your stuff on eBay to see what it might be worth.

wow, I never thought about that. I've always felt relatively secure in the fact that very few people would recognize what was in the small brown boxes that I move around (for installs) but you're right.. a (very) quick google of the part number on the box and any passerby could know the value of the box before I'm back from taking a leak..

Hello,

Not the same ...but still..... there was this method being used by some unscrupulous people involving cell phones. They'd have one person trailing you into a shopping mall, department store or home center and the outside guy(s) would be stealing goods from your vehicle (or your vehicle). If the inside person saw you heading for the exit...he'd text or phone a warning to the outside partners.

Bad stuff... Not really the same thing either, but this reminds me of the latest surge in flash mobs (most likely put together with Facebook accounts or similar) in certain cities around the country.
