My new FOH array system

Re: My new FOH array system

but hes got the right idea with those cabs... High driver to high driver is better than standard stack (although I'm not sure about his term of line array...)

I don't think they say "line array", just "array". And based on the pictures and the impedance numbers presented it also looks like there are actually two separate 2x2 arrays which are then combined in the one picture and some of the other numbers presented. Beyond that...

Re: My new FOH array system

Max Array output 80Hz - 20K Hz 132db (using a brick wall 80Hz High pass)

If that giant stack of speakers only gets to 132dB SPL, I recommend he buys ONE of virtually any decent pro speaker to do the same thing, in less space, for probably less money.

And I'd like to know what DSP he's using that gives him a brickwall high pass filter, or how he even determined that the brickwall filter is critical to getting to the arbitrary SPL of 132dB.

Well, from what I've heard about the U2 "Orange" PA, the EV array probably couldn't sound much worse ;)

Right, BUT that ain't a "giant" stack of speakers... he said they are EV SX-80's... that is, they are 8" two way boxes with a baby compression driver in there. They are compact, baby-sized, fill speakers. Look at the power handling of each cabinet: 175 watts. That entire 2x2 "array" is not but 36 inches tall and 24 inches wide and weighs in at 32 pounds (plus stand and cabling).

Like he says, the entire thing fits in the TRUNK OF HIS CAR!!!

A real Performance Audio system, this is NOT. But, to be honest, I like these speakers a hella lot better than JBL Control 28's.
