Artist Owned Systems

Re: Artist Owned Systems

Thunder Audio = Metallica, I don't know how closely related they are now but they used to own a shitload of Alpha.

Hello,

Thunder Audio is entirely owned by cuz, Tony Villarreal. Metallica is a well respected and appreciated client. Thunder Audio has probably the largest amount of Meyer gear in the U.S., as well as Midas and Soundcraft Consoles. They also have a large amount of Nexo Alpha boxes, Yamaha Consoles, and some residual EAW cabinets.

Currently, Thunder is supplying Robert Plant's Tour, Deep Purple's Tour, KEM's Tour, etc....

Cheers,
Hammer

Re: Artist Owned Systems

That does appear to be the case. I recall a discussion back on the old LAB some time ago about a top 10 C&W artist that owned their own rig. Can't remember now who it was...

Ahh. I was vaguely recalling an article from several years ago from one of the trade rags, but given my at times foggy memory. This reminds me that I am going through another country artist's aging JBL rig out in the Lacombe area today as it seems no one over there is keen on maintenence.

Steely Dan too. Thunder's Keith was brought down to the Oz/NZ tour by SD even though they are not supplying gear. I met him, Charlie (SD's FOH) and Peter (SD Mon) this week.

Hey Andrew,

Did Pete inquire about local fish and fishing? Keith fall asleep ?

All three good guys...gotta watch Pete...he's a practical joke-ster.

Re: Artist Owned Systems

Unfortunately their time was short here. They arrived after a long haul from the states, straight into setup. Which went HOURS behind, due to the venue I think.

I did take Charlie out for "worlds best pizza" (NYC competition won by a Perth guy); Jon (LD) was a bit bummed 'cause of the nascar crash; Keith and Pete were both tired and decided against doing anything.

On show day Jon was pretty busy getting his light show running but had lots of time to talk with Keith and Charlie; both well awake.

I think the funniest thing that happened was when my students told me that they had dinner with Charlie and "some american tour dudes" (I was elsewhere at the time) - and later he pointed out one of the "tour dudes" - Freddie Washington ! Kid had dinner with the band and didn't even know it.

Hammer - have you seen the photo's inside the guitar racks ? Interesting hobby...

Oh - and loved the usb "sushi stick" - for a moment I thought someone had food on a VI6 !

I gotta say I was really impressed with their hospitality and at the end of the show my students, who had never heard of SD before I introduced their music to them, really appreciated seeing such great muso's and top touring crew.

Re: Artist Owned Systems

Hey Andrew,

No, never got to see the guitar racks...I'll have to ask Keith or Pete to send me a pic. Pete is a fanatic about fishing... if he wasn't tired he'd found a place to drop a line.

Once, while fishing in a gator infested waterway in florida, he tossed a replacement beer to me in a canoe about 40 yards away. I caught the beer (never letting go), while shifting weight in the canoe, the other occupant shifted also, tipping us over. Water so murky couldn't see more than two two feet, surfacing, could not find the other occupant (Joe). Repeated dives looking for joe, all the while panic starting to set in because of the gators. Finally, joe emerged from under the canoe... (wise-arse)

Tredged to the shoreline, towing the canoe.... feeling pain in my leg. Pulling up my pantleg, I found deep scratches. It seems a gator found me anyway.

Pete was hoping to catch a gator.

Cheers,
Hammer
