Hello all,

I had a Shure SLX1 bodypack which was in need of repair. I sent it off to Shure (first time I have used Shure repair as all my other wireless systems have been AT and my AT service experience has always been top notch and very affordable) and a few days later Shure emailed me a quote for over $120 to repair the body pack. I asked them what was wrong with the pack and they told me that before they would even look at it they had to get me to authorize the $120 repair charge. I found this to be ridiculous since you can basically purchase a new SLX1 for that price and thus asked them to ship the unit back to me. Needless to say, I was not very impressed with their service on this first experience especially since I have had such great experiences with AT throughout the years. Has anyone else encountered any Shure's service experiences similar to this?

Shure has published fixed fees for servicing many of their products. Some are very cost effective and some are not.

My guess is they would have just sent you a new bodypack as that is what happens some times. Note that at normal electroncs shop repair rates of $75+ per hour and add the cost of parts, just sending a new one from stock might be cheaper for all.

Shure does list flat rate pricing for repairs.

The SLX1 is on page 5, indicating a repair cost of $113. Their quoted prices include return shipping. These charges are for normal damages. If you ran over the product with a truck, they might decide that it's not repairable, and return the product to you.

Now, it is interesting that step 4 on their repair instruction sheet says that you can ask for an estimate of the repair. Seems odd that they would do that, since they have flat rate pricing to start with.

With sub $200 electronic items, the cost of repair is generally not going to be much less than buying new. The SLX transmitter has a MAP of $199 but can be found for a few dollars less from other sources. The $113 selling price is essentially going to be about what dealer cost is, so most likely all they are doing is selling you a replacement unit instead of going through and fixing yours.
