Audiopile v-1

Re: Audiopile v-1

I'll bite. Will give Liz a call on Monday and order one or two.

If it's better than the Behringer "3 for $69" ones or Shure's own SM48 and PG58 it will be useful for classroom use at the non profit music school I work with.

Should it be even better than that I'll let you all know.

And props to Audiopile for clearly marking it as "not an SM58" even thought he shape and colors are the same. I have no desire to deceive any end user.

Comon, Lee,

The Behringers are pretty good for a $20 mic (last I knew so 3 fer $60). Better than a plastic NADY. Plus you get a nice blow molded plastic foam filled case, a nice semi-soft plastic mic clip, AND a ball that IS interchangeable with a SM58.

Anybody got any review on these things yet? I'm still curious but haven't decided to bite yet. Also thinking about getting a few of the AKG D-8000 from MF. $39.95 and buy one get one free. Almost too hard to pass up for a "not extremely horrible" disposable mic.

Re: Audiopile v-1

So picked one of these up a while back and have taken it out on a couple gigs. Was just a hip hop style act where I knew they would be less than gentle on the mic. Sound was good. No real critical singing etc but reproduced very nice and gain before feedback was identical as far as I could tell to the SM58s on stage.
The one draw back was the XLR lock notch was a little smaller than the 58. It made it hard for certain XLR cables to lock into place. I have a close up picture somewhere that shows the slight variation between this and a 58. It seems like a minor detail but can quickly become a problem when someone snags the XLR on something only to have it un-plug from the mic. Other than that very solid mic. I will report back as I can use it on some vocalists or speaking engagements.
