Omnidrive Screen

I have a FDS336 Minidrive and the screen has been flashing for about three years. It goes to a monitor that I never had to change, but I'm going to move it to a system processor for a smaller 2x6 system.

Anyone have any idea as to whether or not this is a simple fix. I was told three years ago by BSS that it was about to go- still hasn't gone completely, just flashes. Makes me wonder if it just needs to be re-eated somehow.

Ahh - sick LEDs. Pull off the front panel, remove the knobs, remove the circuit board screws, pick off the black rubber and tape at the right hand end of the LCD module without mangling it, unsolder both leds carefully (pads easily damaged) and remove, take two superbright 3mm leds, grind the tops off, grind the sides flat on the plane of the leads, form the leads in a little "U" (like the ones that came out), observing polarity (note A and K printed on the LED module), solder in and reverse above to reassemble. Display may be a bit brighter.

Mike you are a champion :) I've got one doing exactly the same thing. The official channels offered a new screen for $350nz plus gst and shipping. Wasnt really worth it when i can see it by shining a torch on it. Will have a go fixing it now :)

This is a VERY common fault with Minidrives. I do them all the time , charge an hour (75) and still have time for a cup of coffee. You have to be a bit careful grinding down the LEDs to fit, and preforming the leads but after that it's plain sailing. LEDs pre and post customisation:

Re: Omnidrive Screen

Mike- I have my tech taking a look at this thing and he can't find the right LED to match the two that are in the MiniDrive. I guess it comes down to finding the right LED with the correct Diffusion Degree Angle. Do you use a generic Diode or were you able to find the exact match? It would be a little tough to send my unit all the way to New Zealand so I appreciate any help that you be able to provide!

thanks
