Going to be buying an Ipad this weekend for using Stagemix and to VNC into my laptop. Is there any reason to spend the extra money on the Ipad 3 over the 2? Most likely geting the 16g WiFi only version.

Wondering if the new retina display will have better visibilty outdoors in sunlight?

Looking at getting an Otterbox Defender case too. Any thoughts on good protection?

Thanks!

Re: Ipad 2 or 3?

Can't help you on the first two questions, but this is an outstanding case for the ipad:

Pelican Products i1075 HardBack Case (with iPad insert)

I have a run-of-the-mill clip-on back and the apple "smart cover" on mine for minor protection in use. The rest of the time that case handles it. It also holds all the necessary stuff (chargers, cables, etc.) that you end up needing.

Re: Ipad 2 or 3?

I had an IPad1 and now have an IPad3. The improvement hasn't been as earth shaking as I hoped. The camera is much better, so is the onboard speaker. The Retina screen looks really nice, but I don't think it's better outside.

Re: Ipad 2 or 3?

The screen on the iPad 3 is brighter than that of the iPad 2. This could be helpful in some situations. However, the differences aren't that dramatic that it's worth $100 more for just that feature alone.

The camera is way better, but if you're not using that, who cares.

The only other difference is that the new one has voice recognition/dictation built in. Again, not a feature that's helpful for what you're trying to do. Save your $$ and get an iPad 2.

Re: Ipad 2 or 3?

My Ipad 1 is still fine for stage mix.
Only upgrade if you need the new Ipad for something else (or like donating to Apple's executive retirement fund)
