hello. my name is clint and i am new to this site. im having difficulty using my new behringer uca222. i hope i can get my ignorant issues solved here. o.k, so before purchasing the uca222, i was lining my behringer eurorack ub1204fx-pro directly into the back of my computer (which is an older dell/windows xp) using audacity and the computers onboard soundcard. my sole purpose of this is to lay vocals down over the many instrumental tracks i have. i connect my shure in-ears to the mixers headphone jack and was able to lay vocals over the instrumental tracks. this was fine but on most every track and every attempt to lay my background vocals on top of what i had already sung, i would get terrible clicking and what not. i assumed this was because of the onboard soundcard not being very good. also, when recording my own background vocals of what i had already sung, i would be listening to the instrumental with the first layer of vocals thru my in ears. this is fine by me by the way. so i recieved my behringer uca222 about a week ago and have not been able to get it hooked up properly. ive tried many different ways to hook it up but have not been able to continue recording and multi-tracking like i had been when i was lining the mixer directly to the back of my computer. at times i was able to hear the instrumentals. at times i was able to hear the vocals and at times able to hear the vocals over the instrumentals. biggest problem is i am not able to record, let alone multi-track the background vocals. when i would press the record button on audacity, the speaker icon on the computer would automatically mute itself. i tried different hook-ups and different sound and recording options thru audacity but to no avail. if there is anyone out there that can assist me in proper hook-up i would greatly appreciate this. im not looking for anything spectacular in terms of cd quality turnouts but just the quality i was getting when i was laying the first vocals on an instrumental using the onboard soundcard (which was pretty decent) im sorry for the long winded plea but i am so frustrated by my ignorance and inability to make this all work. it doesnt seem to hard of a thing im doing but yet im failing. please help. thank you very much and again, sorry for such a long post. i don't know where else to turn. clint

Re: behringer uca222

Sorry Bennet. I'm not very computer savvy and am new to anything like this. I guess i posted in 3 different areas because I didn't exactly know which one to submit my question/problem. In regards to my inability to structure my post with paragraphs, I'm sorry......I guess I'm not that good at writing. In regards to not using caps, I'm sorry.......Im used to just writing in lower case only. I text and send e-mails and thats about it and always use lower case. Just for you tho, I have used caps when needed. Sorry I didn't use paragraphs and thank you for your help.

Re: behringer uca222

Clint, welcome to the forums.
These are different than texting though I would think email would be written like a paper letter too.
The formatting is pretty easy if you think about it. New thought, new line or paragraph.

Take the time to write well. You can get an education of high value here and it is worth putting in the time to ask your questions well. If you do it, you will get great help. Oh, one last thought... read your own posts through as if you were someone else before you hit the "post" button.

Each forum states clearly what it is for. One that you posted in clearly states it is for tech issues with this web site.
Slow down and read!

I am sorry I can't help with your problem though... I don't know anything about that unit.

Clint, this is basically a recording issue, but as you were polite we might be able to help you out a little.

Having the speakers (playback) mute when recording can be a good thing.

I like and recommend this product to mobile DJ,s because its easy to install, requires no drivers, and generally works flawlessly for mobile DJ's.

I have dabbled with Audacity in the past but have moved on to more advanced recording software.

My best guess at this time is that your biggest limitation is the processing power of your computer.

At present my laptop is running a Lexicon Omega which works great with 64 bit Win 7.

for Live show break playback and stereo recording the M-audio mobile pre works reliably, requires no extra power, has just enough features to do the job and no more... but the headphone amp isn't very loud.

Most of these interfaces, if you buy them new, come with more advanced software then Audacity, however it usually a 'lite' version to entice you to upgrade to the 'full' version.

The tricky part of these software packages is sometimes they look for an ASIO driver that isnt there or doesn't work. If this seems to be the case search for 'ASIO4ALL'. You then set the software to look for ASIO4ALL to enable all the features. In my case a couple of thinge in Adobe Audition didn't work until i did this. The problem hasn't appeared with WIN 7 / AA 3.

to upgrade from Audacity for about $50 try Goldwave GoldWave - Audio Editor, Recorder, Converter, Restoration, & Analysis Software. It's pretty easy to use/learn.
