I've got a set of 8 clair 12am monitors, along with all the wiring rigs for 8 channels. But I only have 4 CBA amps with the processing built in. I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to get more mixes with them while still getting the Clair processing. It seems there is an external processor (CR-12lc) that has the 12am settings built in, so I could use other amps. I'm finding a CR-12 for sale...

Does anyone who knows the Clair monitors know if the CR-12 will work with the 12am? What are the differences between that and the CR-12lc?

Re: Clair 12am processing...

Jim,

The real way to go is to use Lake processing, preferably built into a Lab.Gruppen amplifier. That is their new standard, and if you can prove you bought the wedges in an authorized fashion they will probably give you the presets.

Re: Clair 12am processing...

While Lake and Lab.Gruppen would be nice, I'm trying to extend the life of old stuff, not go after new stuff. The current four channels are CBA2000 amps (QSC PL 2.0hv with the Clair cards in them). I don't really need to get better than that. If the CR-12 will work, I can get that for under $100 and use existing amps. I just can't find any literature that says whether or not it'll work.

I bought them off a reputable guy who bought them as phased out stock from a reputable touring company that I do work with occasionally. Not sure what "authorized" means in the context of the used market, other than "not stolen", which I've established since I know the original owners. No service contract, though... so they have no obligation to give me settings. If establishing pedigree is enough I can do that. It just seems easier to buy the pre-programmed processor if it'll work.

As Bennett mentioned, Lake processing is now the way to go and Clair should be able to get you the module.

Both the CR12 and CR12LC were designed for use with the 12AM. The CR12LC came later and doesn't have gain knobs.

Cheers,
