I have a situation that is not covered in any searches. Six 8 ohm outdoor speakers, transformers cannot be added to each speaker because they are outdoor rock speakers. So there is a 100watt transformer indoors, with 70 volt in and 8 or 16 ohm on the output. Is impedance a factor ( put 4 in parallel , 2 in parallel and combine in series to achieve the 4 at 8 ohms and 2 at 4 ohms ) or just connect all 6 in parallel.

What size amplifier is driving this? You may be fine connecting all 6 speakers in series and not using the transformer at all.

Re: a 70 volt mind teaser

Hi thanks for the input the amp is a 70v pa at 120 watts. It is currently tapped out in an other location at 10 watts. This system was designed as a mono background music system for the house.

You have several options...depending on how loud you want your rocks to be.

Wiring the six speakers in series for 48 ohms, will draw just over 100w from the 70v output, this is around 16W per rock. Alternately you could drive the rocks from a low voltage tap, but then you will need to play series parallel games to get reasonable loudness, not to mention more complicated wiring.

Wiring the rocks like christmas tree lights means they will behave the same if one fails open... they all turn into real rocks.

This is what I use for low-impedance landscape speakers:
External Outdoor / Indoor Weatherproof 70V Transformer
(weatherproof external transformer)
