So I'm wondering how other companies package mic stands for there basic festival productions and rentals.

Here is what I'm thinking based on the business I currently do.

Small Events
- 2X tall stands on round base
- 7X tall tripod stands w/boom
- 4X short tripod stands w/boom

Medium to Large Events
- 4X tall stands on round bases
- 14X tall tripod stands w/boom
- 8X short tripod stands w/boom

All my stands are really high quality (K&M or Atlas) so keeping them neat and organized is a priority.

Re: Mic stands

I must have no life, because I always seem to be first to reply :(~:-(~.

On Stage makes some nice mic stand bags that are made from heavy-duty padded material. I am able to fit 6 tripod boom stands plus two short boom stands in each bag, so I have a bunch of these bags loaded and ready to go. Small shows might get one bag, larger shows get multiple. I use K&M stands, and each bag loaded with 8 stands is right at the weight limit of being annoying to move.

On Stage also makes a very nifty iron base mic stand bag with compartments for the iron bases plus storage for the straight stands pieces. Each bag holds 3 stands.

The bags work well because they are easy to fit into nooks and crannies in vans and trucks, and for dry rentals the customer can just grab a bag, ready to go.

Silas - is this the On-Stage iron base mic stand bag you are talking about? Is it holding up well?

Thanks - Doug

Re: Mic stands

I use all k&m tripod stands. I bought some black packing blankets and brought them to my local tailor where they were sewn into bags with 4 pouches. Ideally it's one stand per pouch, but you can fit two in a pinch. Packing them takes an extra minute, but two years in and no scratches.

Re: Mic stands

The best, but not the cheapest is a road case (like a cable cube) with PVC pipe slots that hold one stand per slot. It really doesn't have to be a road case, it could be a strong wooden box with casters and liner painting.

Re: Mic stands

Yes and yes. I haven't had a zipper fail on an On Stage bag yet, and I have many. Interestingly, the K&M bag is ripped and the zipper half works...

Every bag I have ever had has had a zipper failure. Plus for me I always need more stands than a bag will hold. I have been using an SKB golf bag case and it has been great. I can cram 12+ stands in there and it will accept round bases as well. Plus it has the offset top design that lets you actually pull it without it banging the back of your legs.

+1 These are great and fast, plus you can tell if one is missing on load out.

I use the On Stage bags too. They have held up very well for me, I use them for mic stands and speaker tripod stands. Inexpensive and useful.

Re: Mic stands

I use the MC-550's also. Have 3 of them and I load them with 8 tall stands and 4 shorts. Take out however many cases I need based on the gig. One other thing I did to the cases as soon as I got them was to put a piano hinge on the back of the lid an a couple of strips of nylon webbing so that I can just open up like a typical road case. Figured if I didn't attach it I would be looking for it.
