No freakin' Internet

Ok,I am on vacation for two weeks and have discovered the cottage my wife and I rented has no Internet and there is VERY poor cell coverage. Yes, I should have checked, I suppose, but who the heck rents vacation houses without Internet in 2012?!!!
My phone is a portable wifi, I have unlimited data, but as I said above, the cell coverage is awful. I can get 1 or 2 bars in one spot in this house if the wind is blowing in the right direction. It took about 6 attempts and 20 minutes to get this page up. Who here knows enough about cell service to know if there is any way to construct a "booster" antenna for a cell phone from household materials? Like aluminum foil or hardware store type stuff? A collector of some sort? HELP ME PLEASE!!!! I have a pile of stuff in the cloud, my iPad kindle app version of McCarthy's book, all of my music is Spotify, Netflix is my TV, etc, and I very well may finish going insane with absolutely nothing to do except watch seagulls and the tide go in and out for two weeks. Ugh. About all I have for entertainment is the Ray-End Subs app that I "won" a code for and purchased anyways because I just figured it was the right thing to do.

Hi, Matt. Sorry I can't help with your request. I always wondered what good having all that music and data digitally stored would do in a worst case scenario. My advice to you Matt, would be to grab a real book and a guitar and enjoy the seagulls and the tide. A really good scotch couldn't hurt either.

Isn't the whole idea of a "vacation" is to "get away from it all?" Of course it is.

But I STILL want my internet.

There was a plane wreck and a guy ended up on a deserted island. When he was about to die-he was walking around and found a woman (who was on the same plane as him) who had built a house.

he went up to her and she offered him a hot shower-clean clothes she had made-homemade wine, a hot meal and so forth.

When he was finished with the meal-she asked him seductivly "Is there anything ELSE you want?"

He said "Do you mean I can check my emails from here?" Oh well--------------------------------

Interestingly enough, may cell has been getting better as the ocean breeze dies down. Macallan 12year ok? Remember i am an audio guy, therefore can,t afford the really good stuff. I do lke the 12 year. It will work, we have Jamison, Patron, and Grey Goose. We are into the Gary Goose now. Mixed with monster coffee stuf, my wife calls it "Meaner Bean".
I think I need some more meaner bean.

Another thought: I have Comcast HSI at home. This house has Comcast old fashioned TV, which does me no good because ther is never anything on. BUT, anybody know if I go get my cable modem, can I just plug it in to the cable here? I would not do this tonight due to meaner bean.

Ivan, that is pretty funny but I have to confess that I did not "LOL". Were I in a different situation I certainly may have found it more amusing. Not now, not here, not today :)
Didn't bring a guitar, that could have been a good idea. Neither my wife or I have played at all for quite a few years now, but still have a bunch of guitars. The old Martin, a Yamaha, and a couple of Taks. My G&L, two ESPs, a Strat, we did sell her Gold Les Paul. Should get rid of more, they are just sitting. Off to get more meaner bean.

Re: No freakin' Internet

Some people would love to go on vacation where cell coverage is non existent...I always try to take a week out of the year to backpacking...where phones dont work on purpose.

Yeah, we're up in lobster country. Very peaceful. I'm adapting pretty well, I think. I can get email, actually have good cell today. Really depends on the wind, I think.

Can you add a breathalyzer app to this site? :) :)

Re: No freakin' Internet

Man I wish I could take a vacation for a week this summer. But I am busy every weekend and funds are short for Play.

Last year I spent a week at my Uncle's camp on the lake in Hannawa Falls, NY (just south of Potsdam); it was great!!! It took 2.5 days for my dog to wear herself out and didn't want to do anything. But I did have to "work", it was to assist the Fireworks Company on 3 events setting up firework shows; but sitting ~150 yrd under the explosion is AWESOME (it was close enough to see the fuse burning)!!!!! In exchange for all the food and beer I could eat or drank.
