Greetings,

I just picked up some SB1000z cabinets and I was wondering what EAW owners are using to power their cabinets. I plan to add 2 or 4 more within the next year. I see that AES values for these are around 750 watts per driver (1500 per box) and I was thinking a Macrotech 9000i might be decent on paper, but what have you guys found in the real world. Thanks!

Re: Powering an SB1000z

Congrats on the purchase
Macrotech 9000 looks like it'll be up to the task at 3000 @ 4ohms, and 2500 @2ohms.
I went from using QSC pl6.0II to switching between QSC PL380's and LAB G10Q's with good results. I had one guy (who has worked for the other EAW production company in town) come by my shop who told me, they aren't getting enough power (quote "standing in front of them should make you want to throw up"). I thought they were pretty good, and this is the way I'm using them at the moment.
I'm powering 8 SB1000z with 4 x QSC PL380, or two LAB G's (on lighter country gigs).

MA5k's are always a solid choice if you don't mind the weight. 5k's with SB1000's was always my favorite combo with those subs. The newer MAi stuff is decent too. Really, anything that puts out roughly 2.5kw @4ohms will get the job done.

Re: Powering an SB1000z

A local company with SB-1000's had been using the classic MA-5000's and MA-5002's has dumped them all for Crest Audio Pro 9200's.

They have had rave reviews from people who had used the rig before and after. The mix engineers are blown away at how much better the rig sounds and the crew loves the fact that where they used to have two MA-5000's, they now have four 9200's and are still at about half the weight.

This is what I was hoping to hear. I do mostly Christian/Gospel music in "Gymatoriums." Now my beloved SRX718s can be relegated to weddings. I have access to a Crest 9200, and will try them out next week. If they sound great I will continue getting SB1000s and a few KF650s.

I'm powering mine with a QSC plx3402 bridged on each of my 4 cabs. It's working for now but I'm planning to upgrade in the future. I was thinking itech 8000s but I don't need the processing.

I about shit my pants last summer when they asked me to stack all the sub racks... I had forgot the 5k's got dumped. Those 9200's are NICE! 8)~8-)~
