Electro-Voice ZLXs on Recall

Called one my friends that works at a distributor and they've had to pull all of the brand new EV ZLX speakers this morning, but there was no statement or reason was given. Not sure if he said just powered speakers, or both powered and unpowered.

I checked Guitar Center's website, said it was in stock, called the store and they said they just pulled it this morning as well.

I was wondering if anyone who is close with EV has heard any details regarding this recall on the brand new ZLXs?

Thanks,
Nick

Re: Electro-Voice ZLXs on Recall

After some poking and prodding at customer service, I managed to get a halfway answer. The speakers aren't coming back on the market until April 26th, they gave me no reason as to why they pulled them.

I really wanted to try them out in person before I go ahead and make my final decision on a speaker, looks like that will have to wait a bit.

Re: Electro-Voice ZLXs on Recall

Hello all -- we appreciate your concern and wanted to post a response:

We’ve become aware that the wire connecting to the front LED light on our new ZLX loudspeakers may be too long in some units, and may touch the woofer cone. Although this does not affect the performance of the speaker, it could potentially cause unwanted noise.

Electro-Voice is dedicated to providing the highest quality in all our products, so we’re taking immediate steps to be ensure that no ZLX units reach the end user that could potentially be affected by unwanted noise.

Although only a very small percentage of ZLX units are affected, we’re voluntarily taking back all the ZLX inventory that we’ve already shipped to our dealers, and will immediately begin replacing these units with new ones.

EV customers can be assured that their new ZLX loudspeakers will provide the highest quality and performance across every detail.

Thanks on behalf of Electro-Voice

Thanks for the update. Frankly, the fact that this was caught early and corrected gives me even more interest in adding some ZLX units to the lineup in the coming year. I suspect other makers in this price range would probably just have shipped the problem units.

I have had 2 on order for at least 6 weeks and called my dealer to add 2 more only to find out their recalled. Bummed out their not here but glad they will 100% when I get them.
