Do I really need a Nexo NXamp 4x1?

Hi, I have a Nexo system 4 x PS8's (8ohm) and 2 LS400 (6ohm) subs with a controller.

I want a stereo system 2 tops 1 sub each side and need 1 amp if possible to power it all correctly.

I think the PS8 requires 500w each and the subs 700w, I'm not sure on the ohms when using all together, if someone can shine light on that.

Nexo have recommended I go with their NXamp4x1, these seem very expensive and because I already have a controller I'm wondering if I need that particular amp?

Could I use a 4 channel amp, decent quality and what is out there for me to buy?

Thanks
Craig

Re: Do I really need a Nexo NXamp 4x1?

To be sure, the NXAmp 4x1 would be a great solution, although it is, as you say, an expensive solution.

Which processor, specifically, do you have?

You have nice loudspeakers, if you have the right processor, there is no reason you can't buy a nice amp to go with it.

Re: Do I really need a Nexo NXamp 4x1?

if you have the correct Nexo controller for the speakers then use any amp. Nexo speakers used to be driven by Nexo branded CAMCO amps, but no need to stay with CAMCO ... try these UK based guys for example:

If you want stereo with the above configuration you need two 'left' channels and two 'right' channels; LH tops will be 4 ohms (2 x 8 ohm in parallel) and LH sub will be 6 ohm. Same for RH. Alternatively, look around for the original Nexo PS8Amp (which is 3 ch and has controller built-in). Do you have the manual?

The NXAmp doesn't just solve your amplifier problem, it also gives you FIR filters with the NX processor. The controller you have I assume is analog. It's good to have as a backup. With the NX4x1 you are getting a far more expensive processor (like 2.5 times the price) and the 4 channel amp. The combination of that amp with those speakers would rival many studio monitors.

Re: Do I really need a Nexo NXamp 4x1?

if you have the correct Nexo controller for the speakers then use any amp.
That is not necessarily precisely true.

IF you have one of the digital controllers, then yes you can use pretty much any amp. You will need to plug the appropriate settings into the processor, but yes, you can use pretty much any amplifier.

HOWEVER, if you have the analog controller, you must use an amplifier with 26dB gain. This is not an option, it is a requirement.

This is a really great idea. Those old integrated controller/amplifiers are great little units that work very well. It is basically the analog controller built into an amplifier.

Re: Do I really need a Nexo NXamp 4x1?

Thanks everyone for the help.

I've took the plunge and gone and ordered a NX4x1 amp.
It seems the simplest option to be up and running easily and I can sell my Nexo TDcontroller that I have now.
