Trying to get a set of these to work ACME SMART RAY DMX LIGHTS X4 | eBay

None of them were responsive to being plugged in, 3 out of four have good fuses, only 1 has a good lamp (at least it looks good). Tried combining a good fuse with the good lamp on one of the slaves but nothing doing, no life, well, 2 seconds of the filament going red then nothing again. Am thinking they will not light up without dmx control, is there anyway to trick them into thinking they have been turned on? What the hell does dmx do anyway? (Total lighting noob here - if anyone knows any good educational lighting resources online feel free to send me that way).

Lisa, may I suggest another forum, Controlbooth.com. You may already be a member there since most people use nicknames and not real names there. Check out the WIKI links for dmx info. The lighting forum there is also very active. You will also find fellow Australians there including Chris15 who is a moderator.

Re: Acme smart ray and dmx control

Hopefully you can find a manual somewhere for them. They should work without DMX if they are set up correctly. Most fixtures like that have several settings, the main 3 modes being Sound Activated, DMX, and Slave. If a fixture is in DMX or Slave mode nothing will happen without a control signal. DMX mode requires a control signal from a lighting control board. Slave mode is controlled from a master fixture usually set to Sound Activated mode. I hope this helps. Good luck!.

Re: Acme smart ray and dmx control

I can muddle my way around devices with the little analogue 10 switch dmx controls on the side, these are just enigmatic black boxes! Going to try sending an email to acme requesting a manual :-)
