I ASSumed the Mackie DL1608 had integrated wifi and bought one yesterday to audition at a graduation gig.

When I opened the book and realized it'd need an external router to control remotely, I made a trip back to the truck and brought in the LS9.

Looking for a compact even 8-16 inputs, 4-8 output mixer with INTEGRATED wireless interface to iPad.

Anything like this exist?

Thanks,
David

I highly doubt it.. wireless routers are so cheap that it's just not worth integrating one into a product. plus the life cycle of audio products is longer than computer products so not building the wifi in guards against new technologies.
also, if the wifi is built-in then you'd need external detachable antennas (to potentially relocate them) and that'll just add to the cost. with an off the shelf router you can relocate it using a cheap ethernet cable.

take a look at the Apple Airport Express if you want small.

Yes - The Airport Express works perfect with the DL1608 iPad mixer. You can get a refurb unit for $70. New runs about $100.

The LS9 needs the external router like most every other digital desk.

Yup. And even my 16 is way bigger and clunkier than I need for many events. I'm looking for ease of setup, an all-in-one solution. I like efficiency in time and space. I don't need 16 inputs or 8 outputs. Half that would be great. Small, quick, easy.

How about the smaller Mackie, in a custom case, with the wifi router in the case all wired up? That should still end up way smaller than most little analog desks.

So have a 1608 in a case with a little doghouse. In that doghouse you have an airport express that lives in there.

Just a word of caution... My refurbed airport express has not been worthy of the purchase price. It has been finicky no matter what use I've put it to. Because it mostly works, I didn't "find anything wrong with it" during the warranty.
