Is John P still the guy to go to at APB?, I see he has not been on here for 7 months.

Thanks

Anybody else out there with a prodesk 8 with a solo red led on the main metering that won't shut off, when your not pfl'ing a channel?

JP is the guy who knows stuff, but I notice his name is no longer on the website contact page.

I would suggest contacting the name that is there.
Thanks

I know a little about the Prodesk meter since I designed the software for it. but I lost my copy of the schematic in a computer hard disk malfunction a few years ago and had no reason to request another copy from the lads.

Operating from memory (which isn't great) I can only suggest troubleshooting 101.. look for an open/or shorted connection somewhere. Is the solo light on when it shouldn't be, the only symptom?

Good Luck.

Re: APB dynasonics contact ?

The light is always on. I tried calling a few times today no answering machine. Any idea what would cause the light to stay on? Should I start disconnecting banks of channels to eliminate them then head towards the center section?

I know very little about the Prodesk outside the meter PCB and like i said I lost my schematic of that specific section of it a few years ago. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since I was last familiar with that specific circuit so details are sketchy.

I am repeating myself, but is the LED staying on the only symptom?

Does it work normally except for that, or is the global PFL/solo function also compromised?

If it works correctly otherwise, then the problem "seems" isolated to the indicator LED and nearby components. If the fault behavior is more broadly systemic, the problem may be elsewhere in the system.

If the meter works properly, and responds correctly to PFL commands from all channel strips "and" the problem LED is physically located on the meter PCB board. A) swap out the meter PCB, or B) have a technician look at glue components right at the solo LED. If the rogue solo LED is not on the meter PCB, I have even less idea of what could be wrong and can not help.

I probably shouldn't be injecting myself into this now...

Have you tried sending an email to the contact name on their website?

Me just repeating myself is not very productive, AFAIK they are still providing product service but perhaps not with the same level of hand holding JP provided when he was available.

Re: APB dynasonics contact ?

Solo light is always on on the main metering. Nothing else is compromised and I can pfl all channels. The pfl light is located between the main metering for the center and mono mix LEDs.

If you are talking about the red LED on the bottom edge of the PCB (labelled solo), I would contact the APB website and ask to swap out the PCB. Don't tell them I sent you. :)

Re: APB dynasonics contact ?

Problem is the solo light on the main metering is on constantly, the led between the mono and center led bars. I have found the problem to be in the first bank of channels, I took the bank out, the solo light went out. I put bank 2 in bank 1 position, the solo light is out, I put bank 1 in bank 2 position, the solo light went on again, so problem is following bank 1 of channels.

I tested the pfl switches with a vom on every channel of bank 1, they ring out the same. So I have a problem beyond my capabilitys.

Help me APB!!! : )

Re: APB dynasonics contact ?

I gave this new information to the lads. JP lost/forgot his logon so probably won't be answering you here.

It sounds like fairly simple solo logic fault... that faulty module is telling the master section to switch into solo mode when it shouldn't.

It would be good service technician practice to trace out the solo logic line in the bad module and find out where it is being corrupted. It could be a bad switch, a solder bridge, stray piece of wire...

I suspect somebody will come to your aid soon enough. Keep us advised.

PS: I am not the APB service guy... Like i mentioned before email the contact name at the APB website. I mainly chimed in because I know a little about that meter board, but now it looks like that is not the problem.

Re: APB dynasonics contact ?

John, I sent my second email to the contact at apb. Its 1.5 years old, I did send in the paperwork to extend the warranty to 2 years, so I'm hoping that APB can come through. Plus I need the desk right now, I'm busy during the summer!!!!!.
