Thoughts on the Crown XS Series

Re: Thoughts on the Crown XS Series

Same here, had a bunch, they are all now in area installs and never one problem. IMO way better than the PLX amps they replaced.

Re: Thoughts on the Crown XS Series

I'm a fan. These racks now each have an additional 1200 in them. 500 on highs, 900s bridged on mids, 1200s bridged on subs for our VRX rigs. I think I've replaced one amp in each rack; I'm pretty sure they both got injured by an intermittently shorting speakon cable. Other than that, never a problem.

Re: Thoughts on the Crown XS Series

I am looking into getting some used amps to add to my current setup. I found a set of Crown XS amps, and they were reasonable priced, so I figured I'd see what people has to say about them.

Until we switched to a powered speaker rig, we used some XS900s to power our PA. Used them for several years with no issues. They have lots of clean power and sound great. You can't go wrong if you get them for a good price.

Re: Thoughts on the Crown XS Series

FWIW, when they do die, the parts to fix them are no longer available. These guys are out of service as far as crown is concerned. They are good amps though.....

What parts are you referring to? I just had 2 of my stock of 20 xs1200's serviced (not by crown) and the shop had no problems. BTW- if you take the 1200 apart and move the jumpers to make it a 220v amp, it kicks a55!!! No overheating, no blowing the breaker and great performance.

Re: Thoughts on the Crown XS Series

Not sure exactly. We had several of the 4 channel units that one half would go to fault and were told by Crown that they were unfixable...
More horseshit from Crown - there is **NOTHING** in XS4300s that would render them unfixable (other than a fire inside).

Re: Thoughts on the Crown XS Series

The Crown XS series amps are basically a C Audio Pulse amp in a different chassis design. Harmon bought C Audio, produced their version of the amp for a short period of time, took the technology they wanted and dropped the XS series. The C Audio Pulse amps were maybe a little ahead of the curve at their time. There was a lower end C Audio amp model that looked very similar to what became the original XLS amps.
Back to the XS's, when the XS amps were a current model I worked on a couple of school installs that were getting them. To my knowledge there has never been a problem with them.

For fun I though I would check but unless I missed it there is no mention of the XS series on the Crown website under discontinued models.

Ok I did find some XS info on the Crown site via Google!!!
