It’s optimized for better (more efficient) wave shaping all the way down to 500Hz, so it’s a little bigger but not much. You’ll need to include your own expansion in front of it to define the horizontal pattern and control the HF down that low, we’re developing some suggestions but probably...
Our ME464 will work, of course! You can use one about 2/3 that size, but unfortunately our ME90 is too small for 500Hz control. Not many 500Hz horns out there unfortunately.
It’s going to be about 80% the cost, 80% the diameter, and 80% the weight of the DCX464. Surprisingly not much less output, except <500Hz. Smaller diaphragms are a little better behaved!
I dunno, it's like when people ask me if the 18IPAL is good in a particular enclosure: It's the best woofer we can make, so yes? What would be better, less motor or a weaker cone or less suspension travel?
I wanted to build a box that could keep up with the DCX464 and have really nice pattern...
I would also really like to do that, Peter! A 300Hz horn is a statement, a new 500Hz horn is a bit more practical. Would be nice to have to go with the eventual smaller DCX driver (shh).
The trick is that it can never be justified as a money making product. The ME464 has about 40 hours of...
Hey SFN,
Someone recommended the Harbor Freight Predator 3500 generator in another forum the other day, and that got me to thinking. This generator is clearly aimed at the Honda EU3000is, which is about $2200 no matter where you buy it. For 1/3 the price, more or less, what do you get? I wanted...
We'll have them on the website as soon as they're ready, they're completely new designs and a little more comprehensive including active DSP settings. The current designs are perfectly good but require some interpretation, and don't highlight our latest components.
Honestly I don't know, I've...
Hey Masis,
Fun that you're thinking of building our suggested designs! FYI we have some new ones coming, but they will also be ported so perhaps not any more interesting or relevant to you.
It's hard to give advice on punch and smooth response without a bit of context. I think ported designs...
Max said it all more or less as I would have. A few notes:
Our design is unique, has its own patent for the midrange phase plug that allows the two drivers to work in concert, and would not be covered by any of BMS’s patents regardless. History has forgotten the other ring radiator drivers...
Probably September so I don’t promise anything I can’t deliver. Maybe sooner, but there’s a big ocean between us and Europe and anyone telling you they have these available for sale before early July is probably misinformed.
Hey Helge, max-SPL is so signal, box, expectation, and processing specific that I would never want to give an answer. Max SPL... what? Before power compression? After power compression? At a given THD? With what stimulus? For what length of time? These are the sorts of questions we rely on our...
Hey Helge, directivity even at such a high frequency will be really box dependent. We don’t have a way to take polars of a woofer on a baffle or in a box, unfortunately, so you’d have to do them yourself.
Hey Helge, everything will depend on how low that XO needs to be, and how much final output you need. If you were considering Seas you probably don’t need something as dedicated as our 5NSM38. 5MDN38 should be easier to find and less expensive.
Hey Max,
Your Rdc values are within production tolerances, as is Fs. Our tolerances for the 12NDL76 are Fs: +/- 15% and Re: +/-10%. As you’ve seen, exercising the suspension is important as our spec sheets are designed to be “in use” numbers rather than factory fresh.
I’ll ask what the...
Every year at NAMM Cameron Wink of Speaker Addict films me talking about B&C's latest products, and every year he never posts the video. So last year I decided to at least have some fun, and he's posted last year's video just a week before this year's show. Anyway, thought you might enjoy my...
