3 pin dmx wiring

Hello,
I am just wiring up some 3 pin dmx cables. Looks like its a pos/neg/ground and shield. Appears from google the ground and shield are combined to pin #1. Just confirming and these nuetrik connectors do have a 4th connector labeled G. Will be a tight fit getting the shield and ground into pin 1.

The 4th connector, labeled G is a connection to the shell of the XLR connector. You don't want to use that. Pin 1 is ground/shield.

with DMX you really don't need the shield (shouldn't have one if using the right cable) 2 is + 3 is - and 1 is the ground/shield make sure to use 120 ohm data cable and not standard mic cable.

Im using the EWI dmx cable. I talked with another lighting guy who helps me out and he mentioned he often leaves the shield dis-connected. I had already started though so hoping having it connected to pin 1 with the ground should not be an issue.

won't cause an issue. The reason why the shield is fairly useless in DMX is due to power interference not really an issue with DMX, since its a digital protocol.
