While cleaning out a corner of the storage space yesterday I found a box of photos and other stuff salvaged from the Great American Music Hall when ownership version 4 was taking over from version 3.4.

They're photos from a show there on September 25 & 26 1978. Note the "minimal miking". The mic on the boom over the piano was only in use during Sarah Vaughan's part of the show when her pianist was playing. Basie preferred the piano "au natural" in this size venue.

That's a great picture of Butch Miles. I'll have the pleasure of working with him early next month, and I'll have to point the photo set out to him.

BTW, his Wikipedia page needs a good photo. You don't happen to know the ownership/copyright status of the one you posted, do you?
