Hey guys,
I'm looking for a "budget" security camera system for my parent's house. Something with 2-4 cameras, and a DVR. This is basically just going to be used to monitor my Christmas Light display... After a few items getting trashed last year by idiot neighborhood kids, I want to make sure I can keep an eye on everything this year.

Saw this guy on Amazon: Amazon.com: Zmodo 4CH H.264 Security Surveillance DVR Camera System & 4 Outdoor Night Vision Weatherproof Surveillance Cameras and No Hard Drive: Camera & Photo

But, it got mixed reviews. Never really looked at this kind of stuff before, so any help would be great!

Thanks!
Evan

Re: Affordable outdoor security camera system

If you want cheap with great quality you should buy the raspberry-pi ($35) with its camera module ($25). Since a couple of weeks you can now get the camera without the ir-filter for 'night vision'.

Best part is that when you're done producing your own tv-show you can convert these puppies into media centers or other cool stuff!

Re: Affordable outdoor security camera system

I bought my camera system from Costco.com. I am very happy with the purchase.

This thanksgiving, my neighbor across the street was brutally attacked and beaten in his drive way. I had three camera angles on it. The police were here yesterday for many hours as we negotiated protection for us before my attorney would let me release the evidence. It totally identities my house as the source of the video evidence. No good deed goes unpunished!

Needless to say, the images will put the attackers in jail for a long time! It was dark, yet the night time IR vision was pretty darn good even though the attack was 60' away.
