Airwall Hangers

There seems to be three main companies out there who all make solid looking airwall hangers. There may be more, but these are the ones I've found:

The Light Source: Airwall Hangers

Alumalok: ALUMALOK.COM

Airwall Hangers/Titan: http://airwallhangers.com

The main application for this would be small items - one or two lights, a single small speaker, or a cable pick. Looking for folks with experiences/comparisons on any or all of these, good or bad. The only down side to the Titan hangers (that I can find) is that they are manufacturer specific with regards to the type of airwall they will fit.

I've used the Alumalok before and they worked fine, but I have no frame of reference for comparison.

I am not looking for a DIY solution, so please do not suggest something like this. This has to be a commercially manufactured and rated item.

Re: Airwall Hangers

Brian, I have used all three and find the Titans to feel the sturdiest - more than likely because they a made for specific makes/models of tracks.

Alumalocks seem to work well most of the time, just make sure the threaded rod that tightens the "wings" (as I call them) to the track plate (that comes into contact with the exposed track face) isn't stripped, otherwise you won't be able to get a secure clamp to the track. I've flagged a few units, but most have been treated nicely enough to not have that problem.

The plate-style hangers are limited to airwall tracks without a recessed main track (otherwise you're just clamping to the decorative facade), but they are good for picks. You do NOT want to hang instruments from them - they are very difficult to install when your other hand is occupied, and I think it's dangerous to not be certain that your fixture is secured to something before letting it hang free just so you can tighten the hanger to the track. Just be ready to clean the grease off of them each time you use them.

No matter which hanger to choose, you'll have to know the weight limitations of the various tracks you're using, and how to best spread the load over the section(s) of track. Be aware of joints/breaks in the track, and always check for deformities and other anomalies that could derate the track's max load.

I have only used the Alumalok minis for a wire grid to hang paper lanterns. They worked out great and the design was really simple. The pre fab stuff was comforting for myself and the venue as opposed to "coming up with something".
