The Smith Audio are passive speakers we've run in combination with our Crown Itech Amps, and they are amazing speakers custom manufactured by John Smith who is the chief engineer and repair contact at Davidsons Electronics an authorized JBL, QSC, Crown, Martin Lighting Service Center based here in Plainview, Long Island. Read about these speakers in the above links, every word is true, which is why we have delayed parting with these amazing speakers.
The subs are Emminence Kilomax Pro 18-A based 18" subs. They are bass reflex design and the cabinet is very similar looking to the Danley TH-118 with casters for tilting and wheeling mounted on back. They're not as deep and tall as the Danleys and only weigh 103 lbs. They have amazing throw and deep lows. That is why we've hesitated and have been extremely selective with our active sub replacements
The three way tops are extremely smooth sounding and very musical.
All speakers come fully protected with Tuki padded covers.
While the EAW classic JFX 590 is a well known and respected full range and biampable high, the Smith Audio are boutique brand speakers, which as we all know, often sound 10 times better than the brand names, which is why we've taken so long to consider migrating towards active equivalents and why I have been so selective in picking the best sounding system. That's how much we've enjoyed this passive system and the output they produce.
